Just something to think about: while many folks love the memory foam toppers - especially the thicker ones - it really is a personal preference, and you really need to try sleeping on it to see whether it is right for you or not.

My friends raved about how fabulous their new memory foam was, so they'd bought one for their guest bed, too, and were positive that I'd love it when I house-sat for them for a few days. Instead, I found that I sank in, nice and comfortable - and then woke up a few hours later, hot and stiff, and essentially trapped in a me-shaped pool of my own sweat. I sank in so effectively that I wasn't able to move in my sleep, and had to wake up and push myself out of the dent, dry off, and then try another position (repeat twice, give up on sleeping, and go have coffee). I took the topper in to be cleaned, and slept the rest of the visit on the couch. I can only imagine how much worse this would have been if I'd been going in to menopause... They, however, still think it's the best thing to ever happen to their bed.

I love the feather one that I linked below, and have had a good night sleep on wool ones, but am not a fan of any of the foams.

I have chronic pain and sleep in a queen sized hospital-type bed. I have a 4 inch foam topper over my mattress. My wife did some sewing on some sheets so they fit as we couldn't find sheets that would stay on. I flip and turn the topper every time I change the sheets.

I have a foam mattress topper on my spare bed with a sheepskin woolrest on top of that. It is really comfortable. I also have one on my divan bed with a woolrest on top of that. It has the egg-carton-type indentations on it so that is facing upward. There are many sorts you can get now, from memory foam, and various thicknesses, etc. I think it is a case of finding one that you would find suitable. I bought mine by laying it on the floor and pushing down on it to see what firmness it was.

It isn't going to improve a bad mattress much, tho',

I have bought them at Costco and Ikea and liked them both.

The "hotel deluxe" is what I have had for the past few years, and I would never go without it again: www.pacificcoast.com/feather-beds/

I use it with a standard mattress cover, and then my sheets. I have a deep mattress, so the deep pocket sheets work fine. It can be dry cleaned when necessary.

Definitely check out local brick-and-mortar mattress stores to see what feels best to you.

I am thinking about buying a mattress topper to place on top of my current mattress.
Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for these?

Are they comfortable? Do they last long? What about cleaning them? Will my sheets fit over them? I toss and turn a lot, is it easy to turn over with these? Where can I buy these? I looked online, but I think I would like to see them in person.

Input is appreciated. Thanks.
