Oh, thanks. Yes, I'm aware of the exercise and food trackers. I was not asking because I want to substitute exercise, just curious with regards to calories burned in that regard. Thanks though :) I think I'll stick to healthstatus.com just thought an app would be convenient :)

Actually, I just downloaded the app to check lol. You can add "Exercises not listed" on the app too :P it's much easier.

You can track any activity you want using the search bar on the Fitness Tracker. But you're right... SP doesn't have that many activity options, you can find "gardening" but you cannot find "mopping". However you can enter any custom activity you want as long as you know the amount of calories it burns (you can easily find that info online).
I think the first time you add a custom exercise, you have to do it on the website, you can't add it from the app (as far as I know). But once you add it, it will appear on your "Favorites" and then you will be able to just track it directly using the app.

I am not sure I quite follow your question? Personally, I only track fitness on my fitness tracker and my food on my food tracker. My Fitbit feeds something called "All Day Activity" and I delete that because I think activity like housework, shopping, etc don't equal exercise.

I prefer SP as well for everything, I always recommend it to anyone I know and have been on SP even before many Canadians joined (the food entries back then were much more limited to USA choices/selections). But with how you are saying you trace everything, where can you track things like housework etc? So far I just see food or exercise, not other activities.

Can speak to the "best" pedometer apps; it depends on what you need. However, they would all work with the accelerometer in your phone, which is to say, they should (hypothetically) all provide the same number of steps. And yes, you can definitely just keep it in your pocket!

If you have a Samsung phone there is an ap called S Health. It should be factory installed.

Although if you need an ap to be affirming. This is not the one for you. It is pretty blunt and tells you things like, you're falling behind. You're 50% behind your activity.

There is also Map My Run, Map My Walk

I use the SparkPeople (SP)app for tracking everything. I have tried others like LoseIt!, Real Appeal (hated their tracking; it was clunky), My Fitness Pal (MFP). I like SP the best.

I know a lot of liking it so much has to do with the fact that I have been on it since early 2009 so I have a lot of time and information invested in it. I have tried the others I mentioned during this time and it's like reinventing the wheel. Plus, I think SP has the best community and has curated a lot of information available ay my finger tips.

The only other healthy app I use is my Fitbit. I wear the activity and have my Fitbit and SP accounts connected. Personally, I shy away from pedometers exclusively set on my phone because I would have to have my phone on me all the time, when I often don't.

Hellooooo Spark friends! emoticon

I have a new phone to install goodies into and am adding a pedometor and calorie tracker. First downloaded of course was Spark People :) BUT I wanted to ask a couple possibly dumb questions.

Regarding pedometer app, what are your favourites and does it work properly in a purse or pocket or does it need to be in a holder on arm/hip to properly gauge steps?

Also, I know Spark people is perfect for tracking food / calories and exercise (if there are others your recommend, please do), but I wanted to know if anyone seen any trackers that you can enter other daily activities that also burn calories. This website below lets you put in like, mopping, yard work etc. I was hoping an app would also do that but so far the ones I browsed doesn't specifically say if they track daily activities.
Thank you for your recommendations! emoticon
