I give money unless I'm sure I know what the couple want. (I do the same at Christmas.) I don't want to spend what, to me, is significant money on something that may not be wanted or needed.

Depending on the relationship with the bride and groom, I don't stress too much if I can't find something new to wear. I even wore clothes I'd worn to a previous wedding when my nephew got married. I spent hours looking for something and there was just nothing I liked as much as the outfit I already had. As someone has already said, The wedding isn't about us.

I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Philippians 1:6

The last wedding I was invited to was my daughter's wedding. No way I was going to miss it! But I agree that unless you are really close to the couple, money may be your best option.

Consistency is key. But moderation is up there.

I don't stress when I am invited to a wedding. I buy what I can afford!

I was a guest at my sister's wedding over a year ago. It cost me over a week wages (I'll never recover). If you're going to a wedding they year, here's some things I learned that I wish I'd known:
-See if you can chip in on a gift with someone else.
-If you're hoping to lose more than a few pounds, wait to buy your clothes. (But don't wait til the last minute, of course)
-If the shower has a theme don't worry about your gift going with it (what are they going to do? Throw you out?)
-See if you can borrow accessories or clothes from someone
-Before buying anything maybe ask someone if there's anything you already have that will work
-Just give the couple money. That's probably what they really want anyway
-Think twice before wearing a new style of garment that you've never worn before. It might not look as good as you think
