There was a member who was recovering from Anorexia and Bulimia. I don't know what happened to her. I hope she's okay.

Weight loss is not an option for those who are underweight. But if we were underweight, we wouldn't be here.

People who have succeeded. Have failed way more times than they can count. Failure makes the final success all the sweeter.

Thank you MLAN and LadyStarWind. Things are going good now. Glances around furtively. Looking for mysterious shoes dropping out of the sky. My Faith helped a lot, too.

I posted all that because life is often just one giant curveball.

A wise nurse once told me. If you don't take care of yourself. You will be sick and of no use to anyone. Especially the people who need you most.

Goodness, Mandie...you have had quite the eventful few months. It seems you have the right attitude, though, and I love that you stayed on your healthy eating and exercise plan. Those are the things you can control in spite of extremely stressful and expensive circumstances. Then you give the whole dose of perspective of those who have been through even bigger challenges.

MANDIETERRIER1 oh my... I'm not usually one to skip to the next Holiday.... but I'm going to wish you an early Happy New Year!! I sure hope next year will have less of the negative parts of Life to deal with!!

Lacoyta: now is the time to start thinking about how you are going to change your own plan for the future.... Planning ahead as much as possible helps you deal with the unexpected, because then you know what your priorities are, and what you can part with for the time being to deal with the inevitable 'crisis' from time to time. Have a good Holiday Season; set your priorities for eating and exercise, and treat them as goals you are willing to work towards. You might not reach the stars...but at least you are aiming the right direction if you make plans....

If you want to make an excuse. You will find a way to make an excuse. If you want healthy living to be a priority. You will make it a priority.

My summer/ fall have been crazy.

We had two separate pipes burst. One in the kitchen and one in the laundry room
The refrigerator broke
Then the oven broke
Then a watermain outside the house broke (more on that later)
A tree fell in the backyard damaging the roof, gutters and downspout
There was a fist sized hole in another part of the roof. That wasn't related to the tree falling
The roof leaked and damaged items (irreplaceable) underneath it
The watermain leak was running underneath the house taxing the sump pump
One day we got four inches of rain.
The power went out.
The sump pump burned up and quit
The basement flooded. I had to run out and buy a shop vac
Spent hours vacuuming up flood water. Just to stay ahead. The water wouldn't stop coming in
While they were fixing the watermains (3 of them) my dogs wouldn't walk out front. I had to walk them behind the houses.
My terrier ate something in the back yard and we had to rush her to the emergency vet. Spending money we didn't have since we thought she was dying.
Christmas is going to be really lean this year. At least we still get to have Christmas!

Through all of that. Exercise and eating right were a priority. Otherwise I would have needed to be committed.

Saying all that. I know there are spark people who have been through much, much worse.

Also the people in Puerto Rico have been through much, much worse.

People who are successful. Have failed many more times than they were successful. They just don't give up.

Don’t give up. The most important thing is your attitude. If you know you can do it you will find a way.

I wonder if you have reviewed your posts and the responses you received earlier this year, Lacoyta? If not, I encourage you to do so.And you should know by now that proper food intake is more important than exercise.

It won't happen until you make it a priority.

Do your "can't miss" events including shopping for healthful foods, preparing healthy meals, tracking your food intake daily, and working out? (Or any steps that will propel you toward any of your other goals that you never seem to make progress on?)

If you are unwilling or unable to change your inputs then your weight will keep doing what it is already doing. You cannot out exercise a poor diet. Being able to eat in balance with what your body naturally burns is much more sustainable than slaving away hours a day in the gym. Most of the people that use exercise as a significant portion of their calorie burn have to relearn how to eat if they are injured or interrupted by a life event.
It s possible to learn how to eat around dental issues. It is possible to learn how to eat out in social situations and be balanced calorically. It is possible to schedule in workouts and social events. It just takes time and effort and trial and error until you get it right.

-google first. ask questions later.

"no one can lose weight with a 13 minute workout you need 60-90 minutes daily."
You can if you do it right!
You need to choose quality over quantity.
But most importantly, you need to accept that weight loss occurs not by exercise, but by nutrition.
You cannot out-exercise a bad diet.

"No one can lose weight with a 13 minute workout you need 60-90 minutes daily." Sure you can - the majority of weight loss occurs in the kitchen with what you eat NOT in the gym (or wherever you choose to exercise). There are lots of people with mobility issues who aren't able to exercise much if at all and they are hugely successful in losing weight. It's all a matter of choice by you - only you are in control of what you put in your mouth!

Remember that 13 minutes is better than couch sitting---so give yourself "One Atta-girl" point.

Also remember that 60 to 90 minutes exercise DAILY is NOT needed: read up on what good things happen on days off. This is when your body heals and gets stronger....

Also read up on "All or Nothing thinking": you seem to often let one event re-frame your view of what you can accomplish, or where you will be in the future. "Simply Ain't So" as my gramma would have said!! Being derailed from a linear path for several days or even a few weeks won't determine your future. It IS frustrating---I understand that. But instead of letting it get you down, search for more options, make a Plan B, do what you CAN instead of dwelling on what you can't do right now.

Since this is Thanksgiving week, make a list of all those little things that you have accomplished... even if its just writing down your plans for these next several months... and find a moment to be thankful for what you do have: a willingness to change and push yourself, a resource like Spark to help you learn, enough finances to at least have internet access, choices in what food you can eat, the basic ability to even do exercise.... I'm sure you will think of many others!
Hang in there, go to plan B, C, D or wherever Life Leads you, and have a good week!
patti

PS.. I do hope the dentist can get your tooth issue fixed soon. Pain is not a good thing for anyone. take care

My tooth problem on one side, I can still eat on the other.
All I could do today was a 13 minute workout (early dentist appointment) no one can lose weight with a 13 minute workout you need 60-90 minutes daily.
Since the original post, our washing machine quit-something else that'll get in the way, I'm sure.

It has to be your number 1 priority. It needs to come before job, family, friends, housework, etc. Take care of your fitness and nutrition first and the other stuff will fall into place. It takes months to turn it into a habit like brushing your teeth.

If you look at your workouts as "can't miss" events, and you plan around things in order to eat right, you CAN lose weight. It's all a matter of priorities. What's more important to you...the events that you say will inevitably cause you to eat junk and not work out, or getting your body into the best state of physical health possible? It's up to you.

Anyone CAN lose weight, unless they have serious medical issues.

Most people with a tooth problem lose weight because they are unable to chew and thus eat less.
Based on your past posts, you are unwilling to eat less calories and to give up foods you know are not good for you.
Until you do that - eat healthy foods in the proper amount - you will not lose weight.

Not having time is just an excuse. We are all busy... all of us.

I'd love to lose weight. I try to eat less and workout. But one thing that's been screwing me up is this tooth I've been have problems with (I've missed workouts because of it). Also there's lots of can't miss things scheduled this year (I presume more missed workouts and bad eating)
Probably by the end of the year I'll have gained weight.
Does this mean I'm destined to be fat?
