Unfortunately, a lot of us struggle with eating when we're not hungry...

Fortunately, SP can give us some strategies that will help.
this article, for example, 10 Reasons You Eat When You're Not Actually Hungry
And What You Can Do About It!

Sometimes, but I try to resist the urge, and drink some tea, or munch on carrots instead.

Hei Patti,
Thank you for your kind message. I will try to write as you said, this sounds like it could halt what seems to be a compulsion right now. Stuff is less scary when it's named.
Yes, the "keep at it part" is going to be the hardest:)
My best thoughts to you!

I think you will find common ground here with a lot of people who struggled to get out of that cycle. Some of us were never really aware of it...for others, it was central to their coping with Life. Now that you have recognized it though...you can keep it in mind as you move forward to changing your relationship with food.

When you are cruising the kitchen for that next "I gotta have it"snack: stop, ask yourself if this is a "Want or a Need" time of day. If its a Want....write down Why?! If its a Need...choose one healthy snack and plan your next meal.

I'm not suggesting that this eating pattern will magically disappear. You have to work with yourself to diminish it, and then learn to prevent it by eating right, and even so....old habits die hard. (Hey, I gained weight this week...sigh....) This is a Journey, and no Journey goes in a straight line. Just take it, improve where and when you can, and Keep At It!!

Hi everyone,
Just started on this site today and having a closer look why I gained so much weight and how to reverse it.
So I just noticed that I really want to right eat now even though I'm not hungry. Thinking back I guess that happens often. I eat (or do other things) because I'm avoiding doing things that scare me. It calms down some of the stress and distracts my mind for a little while.
Anyone else eating to distract/avoid?
