I am not surprised your son got sent home early! The snow is allegedly hitting us around 1 PM and may be heavy if it's an inch an hour. Many of the Southwestern Minnesota schools are closed and many Twin Cities school districts are sending kids home early. Delta Airlines is offering travel waivers. The news has played a segment regarding our airport's excellent snow clearing ability. I guess the department has won national awards. A bit of snow doesn't slow us down long.

The weather is crazy. I guess the 2010 decade was the hottest on record (since they've been keeping records). We shall see what happens in the 2020s.

I didn't know aftershocks could go on for such a long time after a major earthquake! Frightening....of course, you may be used to it. I live in a place where it gets stupid cold but the earth doesn't move.

The veggie slice sounds delicious! I started my nutrition classes last evening. I get 2 1:1 consultations with a licensed nutritionist or dietitian. I really do make good choices most of the time but will have to see what I can tweek. They promote eating real/whole food like real peanut butter with 5 or fewer ingredients versus the reduced fat garbage. One small change I am going to try is stopping the use of sucralose in my coffee. We shall see.

Any plans for the weekend?

1 behind you - 59 for me tonight.

I used to picture someone who p*ssed me off when I was punching the bag LOL!

My son was all excited and sent photos and videos of it snowing quite a bit in Vancouver. They got sent home from work early because of it because it was causing problems with the traffic. He and my son-n-law were very happy about that, tho', because they walk to/from work so they had some good play time LOL!

I'm not surprised that your Dog took care of business quickly.

Yep - New South Wales has had quite a bit of rain so whereas normally they would be moaning, now they are virtually dancing in the streets :-)

I made the veggie slice today. It weighed 5.33kg/11.75lb and I managed to get 20 serves off it. I cooked it while I was roasting the leg of lamb. I'm taking a little of them down to my sister tomorrow, along with some groceries that she can't get from the one little grocery store my niece takes her to, SOMEtimes. We had a bit of a laugh tonight. Her 11yr old Autistic G/son told her today that "NEXT year" he is going to cook her meals and they are going to be healthy! LOL!

Yep - earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, (and now floods in Australia), and a cyclone has just formed off Fiji/Tonga which MIGHT affect us minimally. The ongoing earthquakes are common when there has been a big one - they are aftershocks and can they can last for a few years. After the big Christchurch earthquake they had over 11,200 aftershocks in the first 2 years alone, and they carried on for a lot longer than that.

Punching bag....right. LOL. I have taken a few kickboxing classes and it was a great release. I am looking at maybe joining the local community center again but that is a few months off. I am returning next week to the theater for 3 shifts a week and my nutrition class starts tonight. I am looking forward to that.

It's cold today. The temperature right now is -8 F/-22 C with a "lovely breeze" that makes it feel like -23 F/-31 C. My dog sure took care of business quickly! I think it's supposed to get to 4 F/-16 C.

Thankfully, it's just a day. Tomorrow, we have a winter storm advisory with a nice dumping of snow possible. We might get 6-10 inches/15-25 cm. We'll see what pans out. My shovel is ready and at least my knee is healed enough that I can take care of it as needed. The positive! :-)

It's reported that NSW Australia finally got some rain. Of course, now there's a flash flood concern. Between those fires, the volcanic eruption in The Phillipines, and the almost 3 weeks worth of earthquakes in Puerto Rico, there is a lot of crazy stuff going on.

I hope you have a great day.

27 for me this evening.

Maybe some of the weight-gain is from the procedure done on your knee? Sometimes the body tends to react to that by swelling, even if you can't see it, and that means extra fluid which means more weight. Get a punch bag and hang from your stairs. They can use a bit of energy LOL! (I used to have one in another place we lived)

So, you had a mist lol. Better than nothing, I guess.

Yep, I avoid strong medications as they cause me to feel drugged and weird. No thank you. I didn't even finish the Tylenol 3 because it really didn't help. If I ever have surgery again, I will be asking if I can just take over the counter. The prescription cost me $10.72 for 30 pills and didn't do much. What a waste of money. LOL

Training continues to go well enough I guess, We are doing real cases now but learning is slow and hard, And I can't exercise like I usually can to release energy so I am stressed out and gaining weight in spite of closely watching calories. Argh.

Miserly 8 points tonight.

The rain remained a "TINY bit" - the deck looked dry this a.m. but I could feel the moisture under foot, and the parsley had some drops of water on it still mid a/noon.

Medication doesn't leave me feeling doped up - even when I was taking morphine for the pain.

I'm pleased to hear that your knee is behaving itself and recovering!

Glad to hear you got a little rain, even if only enough to maybe wet the deck a teeny, tiny bit. Meanwhile, we got another inch of snow overnight on top of the inch or so we got yesterday. My city's plowing services are out and about. I am, as always, thankful I I don't have to drive in it. More is predicted tomorrow and for the weekend.

Okay...so the appointment was what we would call a pre-op physical. I understand now. :-)

Yeah, you got some productive walking in. I bet that felt good. And you're right: home grown tomatoes always taste a lot better than store bought.

I hadn't had a burger in awhile either and it tasted so good. My friend and I went to the Lion's Tap, which does burgers. They are a bit of a destination here and just do a good burger with crinkle cut fries. It was so good.

The only prescription I got was for the Tylenol 3, which was useless. I don't do anything strong because they make me feel like crap and I would rather deal with the pain than feel doped up. I was able to use over-the-counter ibuprofen, which helped more along with icing.

I got outside yesterday on my breaks for extremely slow walks; I just went around the block or up the street and back. My knee actually started feeling a lot looser now and going up and down the stairs is getting a lot better because it's bending more properly. It feels so good.

15 Points tonight.

No - it is only the PRE-admitting appointment. Surgery might be a month or so after that, yet.

I am doing a happy dance (of sorts) LOL! We are having a TINY bit of rain tonight. I have a feeling it won't be much more than 'wetting the deck' but still, it is moisture LOL!

It was a cooler today and not humid at all, so I got that 20 minute walk in with the Laundry today. Actually, it was 22 minutes so I extended it to 25 minutes by taking some rubbish outside to the Wheelie Bin, and walking to the Mailbox and back and around to the back of the house to look at my tomatoes and courgettes and pick some. I have a lot of chopped up courgette in the freezer now, so I guess I won't need to buy any at all for at least a year and hopefully next year I will have another lot growing. Next year I'm going to grow more black cherry tomatoes. They are soooooo yummy and sweet.

I was looking on my Nutrition spreadsheet, and noticed I haven't had a burger since October last year.

Were you not given anything stronger than Tylenol 3 in case you needed it?

Back to work for me this week. Ugh...LOL. But, I have bills.

Your cataract surgery is on 1/20? That is right around the corner. I hope your son and his husband are in town. That would definitely make it easier.

My friend and I got our burgers, fries and a beer. I hadn't taken my Tylenol 3 and I wasn't driving so I figured it was okay. I still have a few Tylenol 3 left and won't take them. They really didn't do anything anyways.

Humidity always makes exercise outdoors a challenge. I am sorry it ruined your walk. :)

A lousy 8 points for me tonight.

Are there many who go to your Church?

Did you get your bugers? If so, I hope that they lived up to your expectations :-)

I got my pre-admission appointment for the Cataract today. It's 30th January so not too far away. HOPEFULLY it will be done while my son and son-in-law are here because then I don't have to worry about having to organize someone to be with me.

I did the laundry today, but never got to go for a walk putting it away. Altho' it was only 27C (81F) it was too humid making it totally uninviting to embark on it.

10 for me this morning

I went to church last night. I have next week off from the theater so I will go again; I prefer the Saturday night service but am usually working and therefore, participate with the online live stream.

Tonight, my friend Amy and I meeting for dinner. She is actually coming my way and I am thinking we might go to The Lion's Tap for burgers. They are really good and not too expensive.

Yeah, household chores can keep you busy. LOL.

Most of my exercise is regularly getting out of my Lazy-boy in the lounge and walking through to my computer room, and back LOL! I have some folded laundry sitting on the couch, just waiting for tomorrow after the next load is washed/dried. Then I will have about a 20 minute walk putting them away. I take it one at a time from one end of the house, to mostly the very far end LOL!

So, TJ will get his own Queen sized bed when he visits your daughter? Sounds about right for Prince TJ! Lucky boy and I hope the new bed helps.

My desk job is very inactive so I am back to that on Monday. I have been restricted to daily activity only and no formal exercise. I have been counting the stretching exercise they gave me but I can't wait to get back to formal exercise. Life gets boring for me without it.

It's amazing how much walking a lot of jobs actually give us. Some jobs are an excellent workout.

I haven't seen TJ since the day before Xmas. My daughter said on Thursday that she has taken the porta-cot down because he rocks it so much he has had it on 2 legs LOL! They needed a new bed, not because there was anything wrong with theirs, but it is too soft for my s-in-law's back, so they picked the new one up today. When TJ stays with them he will be in the old Queen Sized bed.

Yeah, part of why I asked for next week off is they didn't tell me I needed 2 weeks off. At my consult, I was told a week. :-( I am, of course, going back to the full time gig on Monday because that's an office job. The theater is a lot of walking. I usually get at least 3 miles in and have gotten upwards of 4-4.25 miles (5k to 6.75km). Yeah, the lazy bossy one should pick it up a bit lol.

Have you seen TJ lately?

Glad your knee is behaving itself and doing what it is told LOL! Don't feel bad about having to say you needed the following week off. She will know that you aren't playing games and it is a legit need, rather than someone who is just lazy and their to collect their pay packet and nothing else. Let that lazy one fill the slack! It's a shame about YOUR losing money tho', but better your knee's long-term health than stuffing it up again.

Okay. The L means Learner. Here in Minnesota, we have "student driver" marked on the car. So, she blatantly disregarded her mom's request and used it. How awful.

My knee continues to improve. I actually texted my theater supervisor to get next week off too. I feel badly as she had already started the schedule. Thankfully, she was fine about it and I would probably be okay but oh well. I will lose another $100 lol.

The L Sign is put in the front and back windows of a car when a person is learning how to drive. The "L" denotes "Learner" - it is bright yellow and the "L" is bold black. They actually have 4 vehicles, but 3 need repairs. I don't know why their other one isn't used to teach her. My niece uses my sister's car daily for work, and that frees up the other for her partner to use to transport kids to school or what/wherever else they want to go.

27 this morning. Yes, yesterday's points were a lot! I got a 50 and 2x 20. Fun times.

I am sorry, I don't under stand the bit about your sister's car and the L Sign. Did they end up driving the car and do something to it? I don't blame her for saying no and I would probably do the same thing. I imagine the daughter has her own car to teach her daughter to drive.

They named the kid Jaxper? That is an awful name! Congratulations on the kid and such but goodness, that is quite the name. I supposed he can maybe go by Jax? That sounds like Jack.

My niece and I went to The Jason Show yesterday. I can maintain daily activities and I need things to keep me distracted. I also have my knee exercises.

35 Points for me tonight.

You did well yesterday with your points.

Glad to hear that your surgery went well and that you don't need crutches.

I couldn't believe the 5 days thing, either LOL! In fact, I was gobsmacked!

My sister is pretty pissed off with my niece and great niece today. A few weeks ago her daughter asked if she could teach her daughter to drive in my sister's car. She said she would check the Insurance company to see re premiums. She did that and told my niece, NO, because the insurance premium would be very high AND if there was a prang, the excess would also be very high.

Today she was NOT amused. She heard her daughter and g/daughter go out in the car and didn't think anything of it. Then when she went past it later, there was a bit yellow "L" sign, front and back. She asked her g/daughter who confirmed her suspicions. My sister told her that she had already told her mother that she was NOT to drive it, or any other g/child, that it was HER car and HER independence at stake. They are bloody rude and are obviously taking it/her for granted.

On a brighter note, I meant to tell you a couple days ago. My hubby's nephew and his partner had a little boy who they have called Jaxper. I couldn't say 'that's nice' because it is flaming awful to lumber a kid with that. I remember my late hubby crying on a few occasions about his name. His parents called him "Chilver" (but the nurses when he was born refused to call him that so called him "Bimbo" after the song "Bimbo, Bimbo...." which had just come out, and that name stuck but in the abbreviated form of "Bim." He used to get teased relentlessly about it and even as an adult it affected him.

95 today. I got a 50 and 2x20. Not too shabby.

Surgery went fine. No crutches and daily activities allowed. I have to take it easy for a couple of weeks. That is good. I am off the theater and full time job this week. I will see how I am feeling Thursday and I will let my theater supervisor know. I have my next 5k scheduled February 8 and I should be able to at least walk that. It will feel so good to get back into muy routine.

I am glad to hear your sister isn't in the hospital! She will be in my prayers. Her dreadful daughter too.

You have to have someone with your for 5 days after your surgery????!!!!??? And here I was angry because I had to have someone for 24 hours. Is it because it is on your eye and your vision will be whacky for awhile? No matter the reason, I am frustrated for you.

No - my sister didn't end up in the hospital. She has to go back to the Dr in a few days and the D/N's are coming every couple days, however after what happened with her leg o/night, I wouldn't be surprised if they go back onto daily dressing changes.

You had a good comeback re that younger hostess. I hope that she took on board the barb.

I hope that your surgery went well. I am really glad that your niece is staying with you. I was surprised to read by the hospital blurb that when I have my cataracts done I am supposed to have someone with me for FIVE DAYS!! I thought it was only the first night.

Your sister's leg went awry again? Oh no...Did she end up in the hospital? At least when she's there she gets decent nutrition but it isn't good that she may have to go back in.

Saturday night went fast partly because I worked playhouse, which opens for dinner seating at 7 PM so the 2 hostesses there help in the main theater until 6:30 or so. So, we seat twice. I was also working with one of the younger hostesses who is bossy and lazy. At one point, just before we opened the door, the small room supervisor told her to not be sitting on the stool. Her excuse? Her knee hurt. I turned to the supervisor, with whom I have a good rapport, and said my knee hurts too and that I was actually having surgery on it on Monday (today). Needless to say, I was exhausted at the night's end and can't take ibuprofen right now.

I picked my niece up last night from the airport. She is helping me during my 24 hour surgery and my sister's family while she is in Israel.

If your work last night went really fast, you must have been enjoying it :-)

My sister's leg has relapsed again, and she is now back on antibiotics and the District Nurses coming more often. The one who came this a.m. told her she had to go back to her Dr today so when she went, she took her hospital bag just in case.

The fire in Australia is just awful! Half a world away, we get regular updates on our news about it. Some firefighting teams from the US have gone to try and help. I know they get their share of helping with large scale wildfires, usually in California. I saw a repost yesterday that stated it was going to get worse for a good 24 hours. I just hope they can get it controlled ASAP.

Thank you for sharing the info on how it's affecting NX. I was wondering about it.

I worked the theater last nit. I had the late shift so I got out a bit after 10:15. It went terribly fast.

18 Points tonight.

We had a real weird day re visual effects from the fire in Australia.

This I took at 4p.m. Bearing in mind, we are middle of summer and it should have been sunshine for about 3-4 hrs instead of the dark colour of middle of winter.
It is facing South/East - Australia is over 2,000k's West of us.

It had gone to that from this 1/2hr earlier

You don't SOUND like you are not being kind to yourself .... You AREN'T being kind to yourself, apart from the fact that you have resolved to do something about it. Just remember, if you were that off-mark, you wouldn't be able to run those distances, and especially with a stuffed knee!

I had a quiet evening myself last night. I ran to the grocery store right after work and was home by 5. I watched the news and a couple of shows on Netflix.

The pictures showed me how far I left let myself go. Granted, the health stuff last summer didn't help but I am definitely FAT and that is why I called the pictures gross. And I am honestly fine with that because I am doing something about it. I have the nutrition classes coming up, I am getting my knee cleaned up, and I will start working more at the theater again more regularly, which burns some calories. I usually get 3-4 miles of walking in during a 3 hour shift.

I know I sound like I am not being kind to myself but photos were simply confirmation of how I have felt for the last several months. And I am ready to try and fix it.

Off to my 2nd 5k of the year in a bit.

I had a quiet day today. Well, I normally do, but today was more quiet than normal LOL!

I have a feeling that you aren't looking at your photos honestly. A lot of people see pic's of themselves and hate them but others think that they are good.

20 minutes to go 500 meters? That is bad! But, you got your groceries so that is good. And you got a little rain. That is good.

The nutrition course lasts 12 weeks. I know a lot but know I will learn a lot.

The race photos are gross because I look so overweight and yucky. Hopefully, the nutrition classes and arthroscopy on Monday will help.

No big plans for the weekend. I work tomorrow night in the theater in the Playhouse so I'll get to see the improv troupe.

55 Points for me tonight, thank to a 50 for one team.

I went into town to get my groceries today. My sister had said the traffic was almost non-existent in the city today. I could see why. They were all up here on the main road north/south :-( It took me 20 minutes to go literally 600 meters. Up here is not the city and the town only has 5,000 people. Coming out of the Supermarket it started to shower - enough for me to need my umbrella. We didn't get much out here, but is was at least a sprinkling.

Good one on signing up for the Nutrition Classes. Apart from the 2 sessions with the Dietitian, how long will the course go for?

Why were the pic's from the 5k gross?

Uff da...everyone was out and about for the New Year's Day holiday? I suppose that makes sense because it's summer, so I imagine people were out enjoying (hopefully) nice weather. Did you get your grocery shopping in?

Of course, Minnesotans don't let winter stop us. There were a handful of 5k races around town and many outdoor activities like nordic and alpine skiing, skating, hiking available. We have a lot of parks and not a whole lot stops us.

The theater is a good place. We don't make a lot of money but it's fun for sure.

Back to work today and tomorrow and then surgery on Monday.

Did I mention I signed up for a series of nutrition classes that includes 2 sessions with a Registered Dieititian? I maybe mentioned it last fall/spring (for you) but decided against it at the time. It starts in 2 weeks from today and teaches about the science of food. I saw pictures from my 5k yesterday and gross, gross, gross. LOL

I really like the sound of your Theatre :-)

I started off to go into town to get my groceries today. I got just on 3 miles and realized it was the last day of the Public Holidays and everybody and their dog would be on the road. It was stop/start/stop/start getting to the first little village so I went right around the roundabout and returned home because as I got closer to town it would be a lot worse. I will go tomorrow instead.

67 this morning. Maybe 2020 will bring one of us the elusive 2020?

Ohhh...your sister got somewhat of a meal. I am glad she had some coleslaw for a semblance of a vegetable.

I worked until 8:30 or so at the theater. The customers were well behaved as they usually are. All 3 theaters had events for the New Year's Celebration. The tickets were $110 per person and included choice of show, dinner, and post show dancing and a champagne toast. It usually sells out. I was in bed by 9:30.

I am off to my first race of the year in a little. Glad you got your vacuuming done.

My niece must have taken to heart about the diet because tonight's meal was KFC Chicken, very few French Fries, and small amount of their Mashed Potato .... and gravy. Just as well my sister had some left-over Coleslaw that she had bought to put with it LOL!

I will accept my being an honorary Minnesotan LOL!

It was quite a quiet night in the district last night and all noise stopped just after midnight. I just missed out on seeing the New Year in by vacuuming - I got it finished about 10 minutes before the clock ticked over.

75 tonight.

As I type this, it is still 2019 but it's after midnight in New Zealand. Happy New Year!

Your niece was upset about the additional nutritional supplements her mom had to get? Good grief...I hope your sister can heal enough to maybe look at alternate places to lice except I know finances are rough since she had to pay to build the unit she lives in. Something has to give! I love that your sister had her daughter take her to get the prescriptions. Passive aggressive...it must run in your family. I hereby declare you both honorary Minnesotans!

I imagine ambulances are hot! It's interesting how we change how we ring in the new year. I have run a 5k on New Year's Day since 2015. So, that means no celebrating into the wee hours of the night. I will be covering a short shift at the theater so, I'll be off by 8:30 or so,

We got more snow!!! Officially, we got 3.5 inches/about 9 cm at the airport but I think my town got closer to 5 inches/12.5 cm. I had to drive 16 miles/26 km for my pre-op. Normally, it takes 30 minutes but it took me about 50 or so yesterday driving carefully because we'd gotten drizzle before the snow which left a nice coating of ice. Ugh. They just showed a on ramp to a major highway a few miles from me is shut down because a semi truck got stuck. It's these kind of days that make me thankful I work from home.

12 Points for me tonight.

My sister and I had a bit of a snigger tonight. She went to the Dr yesterday and the friend who took her let slip to the Dr and Nurse what my sister was given for Dinner for Xmas and Boxing Day. She also let slip that they had a proper Xmas Lunch with various trimmings because she had seen it. The Dr was disgusted. She had arranged to have a whole set of bloods done in addition to what the Hospital wanted. The results came back not good, and most of it is related to diet. She prescribed Fortisip and my sister played ignorant to my niece and just said that she had a new script to pick up from the Chemist that she wants starting straight away. (part of the new script is an increase to her BP meds). My sister wanted to go to get them so niece actually took her. She brought the scripts out of the car and gave to them my sister, who played ignorant and went to have a look to see what it was. When my niece saw 3 big tubs of Fortisip powder she was totally p*ssed. She snapped "What the f...? Doesn't she think I feed you?" and stormed off. Well, a diabetic trying to heal from months of infections, plus ulcerations etc. and hospitalization isn't going to heal very well on hamburger and toasted sandwiches which was her 2 night meals in a row, or one tiny piece of veggie to go with a sausage and potato which is a semi-regular type of meal.

I don't have any New Year's Eve plans other than here on SP and TV. I always used to be seeing in the New Year by ironing my St John uniform because I was a First Responder covering the New Year's Day Rodeo, but haven't done that since my accident. Actually, I'm quite pleased about it, too, because it has gotten too hot to be sitting outside, or in the Ambulance.

Enjoy your time off work.

See you Next Year emoticon

It was fun to see different interpretations in the role but the story stays the same.

I will figure something out. I realize healing burns calories and I actually put in a lot of time getting in exercise daily with walks and other intentional exercise so laying around like a lump is out of the question. I have been eyeing some limited mobility things for sure.

I have today, tomorrow, and Wednesday off work. I work tomorrow night at the theater and then a 5k on Wednesday. Do you have any New Year's Eve plans?

I guess it would have been like seeing a different show with the different actors in it.

You need to remember that when you are recovering, your body burns a lot more energy that it would otherwise. Exercise doesn't actually account for much where it comes to weight-loss/maintenance. I'm sure that you will have some chair exercises you could do that works the top half of you, and DON'T cut calories to the minimum. As I said, your body will be burning a lot of energy to heal!

I am glad to hear your sister got to the supermarket. Of course the daughter would complain. It's really too bad she is so rude.

I worked the theater last night. I was the breaker, so I got to see the first bit of the show while the late person took her break. There were a ton of actor substitutions! One of the male leads is injured so one of the other leads played his role and an understudy moved up. Another lead and his husband, who's also in the show, are on vacation in Florida. And that is just a few of the changes. It was kinda fun to see.

Ease for sure is the key word. I do need to find ways to move lightly during that week. Sitting on my butt isn't good. As it is, I will probably gain a ton of weight, even if I cut calories to minimums!

My niece took my sister to get groceries today, and commented on how long she was in the little Supermarket. My sister said she had bought stuff to make up for what she missed out at Xmas time LOL! I HOPE that my niece felt the barb LOL!

Where it comes to your knee, yeh - remember the operative word is "EASE" not wait another week and go running LOL! I'm glad that you have someone to come and help you.

It sounds like last night was good - you got paid and you got to socialize with your youngest sister and her other half.

Well, if the traffic was bad, I understand why you didn't go to your sister's. Plus, if she was exhausted, that would make shopping rough. I am sure it will work out eventually. I know your spirit is willing. And it sounds like you have some tasty things ready. Hopefully, you can make it there soon.

I think I have to be off my knee, as in no exercise, for a week and then I can ease back into things. My oldest niece will be around for a bit to help; she is coming up from Texas! The rest of my family will be out of town and my sister who is a doctor and lives locally, well, there isn't much of relationship. It will work out.

Passive aggressive is sometimes an extremely useful skill. You'd make a good Minnesotan LOL.

I worked the theater last night and was in the main theater. It wasn't so bad since there were actually enough service assistants. After, I met my youngest sister and her husband at the attached pub for a drink.

9 Points for me again tonight.

I didn't go down to my sister. I was going to but when I phoned her to tell her to expect me, she said I had better not because the traffic was really bad around her place, and was really bad on the Motorway and she was really tired after having been up 5 times during the night re leg and hip pain and was ready to go back to sleep. Instead I made some Veggie Mornay for her and froze it in little single-serve pots, then free-flowed them into one snaplock bag. When I get my groceries next I will get some more cream and make some Veggie Slice, freezing some for me, and some for her.

Yep - you got it in one -I am a VERY passive aggressive person LOL! I have put a lot of stuff on FB that I have made public so my 'under a rock' brother or his kids can find if they want to have a sneaky 'keeping tabs' on me emoticon Some of them have been real Doozies LOL! Mostly about having empathy and compassion and looking out for others.

My sister has made up a list at my suggestion for things she wants at various supermarkets (some things you can get at one but not the other) as well as the large department store her daughter wouldn't take her to when asked many-a-time.

How long will you be off with your knee? I guess you will be really glad when your work becomes "for real" instead of classroom stuff.

The meal was small but sounded good. Did her daughter bring it? It's too bad the sauce was sub-par. One piece of broccoli? Really?

The poem was lovely. I hope your niece reads it and takes it to heart. I like, too, that you posted it on FB. How very passive aggressive of you! :-) Such behavior is quite Minnesota. LOL...we can be quite passive aggressive here. ;-) So, I approve.

Will you be visiting your sister? Where is she deciding to go? I am so glad you have that GPS app and can go help.

Last day of work this week and I have Monday and Tuesday off. Wednesday is another holiday. I then have the following week off for my knee sugrery. All of this was planned even before I accepted the new position and my new boss was good with it.

We are, thankfully, through most of the classroom training and will be moving into actual work and that is actually what I need. We watched a tenured rep work yesterday and it was so frustrating. He was jumping all over the place; it was hard to follow. I just need to do it at this point.

9 points tonight.

This was my sister's dinner tonight. She put the egg there for size comparison. It was a sausage in a tomato-type of sauce. She said the sauce wasn't nice so she ate the broccoli, spud and sausage and washed the sauce down the sink.

I told her today that tomorrow or Sunday I would use my GPS app and go down to her and take her to whatever shops SHE wanted to go to, and take her walker rather than trying to manage crutches and then not be able to sit if she needs to. We are going to have lunch together, too.

I found this poem on the internet and put the hands under it and then put it on FB so my niece could read it. Hopefully it might cause her (and others) to think!

No one deserves to be treated by family the way your sister is treated. She got a ham sandwich for dinner? Not good.

I am not sure how they prepared the paella. I know they have just made it a couple of times. Maybe they stirred it. At any rate, it was good.

25 points for me tonight.

My sister got a toasted ham cheese and tomato sandwich for dinner tonight. I am NOT happy - especially given that she has been in hospital a lot and is unwell and needs healthy, balanced food .... AND some TLC! She needs a family who are actually willing to spend more than 5 minutes with her without being sh*t-faced about it.

A lot of people tend to stir a paella after the stock has been put in, but it should be left because that is how the crust forms on the bottom. Otherwise you really just end up with risotto. Maybe that is what happened.

44 this morning. No Christmas Miracle with a 250!

Merry Christmas indeed,

Your poor sister. Her family sounds awful. At least her daughter brought her a hamburger. I have a tough time around the holidays, too, but it isn't an excuse to be nasty. *eye roll*

It sounds like you had quite the spread! The Paella was decent. There were no scrapings but they are still figuring it out.

Merry Xmas, My Friend :-)

I was even more gutted for my sister today. She went up for Present opening. The g/son with autism didn't particularly like much of what she gave him - he claimed he didn't like chocolate (he loves it) he claimed he didn't like the crisps she gave him (he normally always cleans her out of them) and was only interested in the banana and the $20 she gave him so she got quite a dig in at his parents (in front of them) by saying that she hadn't been taken Xmas Shopping so she could only give him what she could scrounge from her pantry. They didn't have any Xmas lunch there so she went back down to her little unit under the house. Her son who lives just down the road only acknowledged her when she messaged him to see if he was having his youngest child (8yrs old) at any time over Xmas because she would love to see her. He told her she was with him now. No mention of bringing her around for his Mum to see. (she hardly ever gets to see her ... like at one time not even once a year, yet he had her a lot of week-ends. He didn't wish her a Merry Xmas .... nothing, but then, he doesn't believe in Xmas. Come 'dinner time' at 4p.m. her daughter brought her dinner down to her and then left. It was a cold hamburger. My sister was sooo disappointed with the burger that she cooked an egg and put some bacon on it to titivate it up a bit. At 7:30 my niece brought down some dessert, which apparently WAS nice. A Plum Sponge pudding with Squashed stewed plums and yoghurt. When I was talking to her I am sure that she had been in tears because her voice sounded a bit teary without crying.

The paella sounds nice. Do they do it with nice 'burnt/crunchy' scrapings on the bottom?

I quite enjoyed having the family here today. I made Potato Salad, Kumara Salad (similar to your Sweet Potato) Greek Salad, Coleslaw, and we had Ham, Smoked Fish in Parsley Sauce, Crumbed Fish Bites, Smoked Salmon, Cucumber, and Tomato, and for dessert we had fresh Cherries, Strawberries, Blueberries, Meringue, Whipped Cream, Brandy Snaps, Cream Puffs, and real Turkish Delight. I had the salads and ham for dinner tonight, too.

Just after they left, my son video-messaged me from Mexico. It was lovely talking to them both. At the end my son-in-law told me he didn't have any pants on but it's o.k. I could only see his top half emoticon emoticon (he'd not long come from the shower)

I hope that you have a lovely time at your parents.

44 this morning,

It is Christmas Eve morning here in Minnesota but I do believe it is after Midnight in New Zealand so MERRY CHRISTMAS!

So, no real Christmas miracle with your niece. At least she got the meal replacement. Was your sister able to do any Christmas shopping? How far does she live from you again? I imagine it's far enough that helping more is a challenge.

TJ...Santa's helper. I love it. Christmas is exhausting for everyone and I imagine his excitement potentially adds to his crankiness. How was your Christmas celebration?

I am going to my parents' tonight; they are making Paella. My mom and oldest niece Emma went to Spain in August and brought a pan back. Tomorrow, I am going back and we are having just appetizers/snacks. I bought a bunch of vegetables yesterday and some pineapple. The grocery store had smaller ones at buy one, get one free.

I am thankful, too, I didn't have to work. I frantically texted my boss Sunday morning; I felt bad doing that because she works so hard. After apologizing for bugging her, I let her know and that if needed, I was available. Turns out, she wanted to teach the girl, who is in high school, a valuable lesson about requesting time off in a timely fashion, especially during the holidays, which are bonkers.

59 Points this evening.

My niece took my sister to get her groceries, but didn't take her for Xmas shopping! She got the meal replacement for my sister today, but didn't get her any bread.

My daughter lives 15k's away so roughly the same distance as your Mum.

TJ was Santa's little helper today and gave all the pressies to the appropriate people, then opened all of his. He loved them. They left again about noon because it was his nap time and he was starting to get cranky. My daughter and co are coming out for lunch tomorrow then going on down to his sister's for Xmas Dinner. I have a funny feeling that I will be going to bed early tomorrow night. I'm quite tired at the moment and it's only 7:40p.m. LOL!

I'm glad that you didn't have to work. I can't think of anything worse so close to Xmas. I well remember how I felt when I was I worked 7 days a week. Even tho' Sat/Sun weren't long hours, they were for oldies breakfasts and dinner, and sometimes their lunch. It really cuts down on what you can do during the day, and impacts on family/friend/down time.

I am glad your niece took her mum to the grocery store. Perhaps a Christmas Miracle? It's too bad your sister forgot a couple thinks. Maybe your niece will be nice and run out and get it...I think that would be a true Christmas Miracle.

I hope your Christmas celebrations go well. How long of a drive is it to your daughter's? My mom offered to let me spend the night Christmas Eve into Day. They live maybe 11 miles away and it takes 20 minutes tops, depending on how I hit the lights. Really, no need and then I can keep the cat on his feeding schedule too.

ETA: I didn't have to work, thank God.

25 for me tonight :-)

My niece did end up taking my sister to get her groceries, but then my sister forgot to get the two most important things she needed and one of them was a meal replacement the Drs suggested she use in addition to what she eats.

I hope that you didn't have to work this a/noon.

Tomorrow is an early start for me because it appears I'm to be at my daughter's by about 9:30a.m. for Xmas Brunch (day early re g/son and his partner's Xmas Day commitments.)

That niece certainly is, well, bold...and definitely rude. I am glad your sister stood up to her too! I hope she gets some Christmas shopping done too. I know helping out family members can be hard and time consuming but have a heart! :-)

I wasn't sure about the cataract surgery. Of course doing 1 at a time is the way to go. We can't have people completely without use of sight if possible. Hopefully both eyes will be better soon.

I may have to work this afternoon. A coworker asked if I could cover a shift but never really answered. We looked at the schedule and I did mention that I don't typically work Sundays but never really said no. Argh.

12 Points for me this a/noon.

They only do one eye at a time because otherwise we wouldn't be able to see at all LOL!

My niece appears to have started up again. She got her daughter to go into my sister to tell her that if she has her grocery list ready to give it to her and she will get her groceries. My sister (I'm VERY proud of her) said "NO - I have to go. There is too much on the list and I have to go to the ATM to get some money out. My niece then said she will have to take her this a/noon or tomorrow. My sister said tomorrow is out because she has the blood crowd coming to take bloods, the District Nurse coming and she has to go to the Dr. She then had a look at her diary. Niece hasn't taken her shopping since 1st December. She hasn't even asked her if she wants to do any Xmas Shopping!! She told her that they are going to have a fancy Xmas Lunch this year...... Hamburgers!!! Someone needs a few smacks around the ear hole!

I hate cheesy songs. It's a pity that they weren't something more enjoyable.

So, cataract surgery. Will it be just the worst eye? Or will you maybe have your mum's estate settled and can get both done at the same time? Glad you made the trip and survived.

The theater was fine. I love dinner in the Inglenook restaurant, which is in what was the cellar of the farmhouse that was on the land before the theater. Seating the the Fireside theater was a madhouse per usual.

After I punched out, I went back to watch a bit of the concert. The performer is a local favorite and is quite talented; she was a runner up in one pf the earlier The Voice competitions but I was disappointed in the songs I heard. They are origibals but extremely cheesy. I was glad I could leave,

I got exactly 20 this morning.

Your sister is home! That is good news. I truly hope she gets answers as to what is wrong and gets healthy again. I also hope her daughter treats her well. I am glad the home health nurse doesn't have to come daily.

You must have been feeling good to get all your Christmas presents bought AND wrapped! Wrapping is probably more exhausting than getting the presents. LOL

Emotionally damaging...yes, I agree that staying quiet and just dropping someone for something done (allegedly) wrong is harmful. As long as you bring up a subject in a kind way, things can happen.

I work the theater tonight. I will be in the Fireside theater, which means dinner is in my favorite dining room. It's in what was the cellar of the farm house that stood on the land before the theater. Of course, I hate seating in the Fireside but tonight, I am hoping I break so I can hear a bit of the show as it is Kat Perkins who is a local favorite.

68 Points tonight.

My cousin went home this a.m. He had a minimum 8hr drive, but with the traffic this time of year and the school kids having just gone on holiday, it was more likely at least a 10hr drive.

I went into town and bought the rest of the Xmas Pressies, today. I've even done something I haven't done in YEARS ..... wrapped them all up LOL! Normally I wrap Xmas Eve.

I've got my appointment at the Eye Clinic tomorrow.

I firmly believe that we should speak if something isn't going right, too! It might be hard, but it is a lot harder and potentially more emotionally damaging to leave it longer.

My sister went home from hospital today. She has been booked in as an outpatient for the MRI on her body. The hospital bed arrived at her place this a.m., so my niece got it all made up ready for her before she collected her from Hospital. The District Nurses will still be coming in to dress her legs and check on them, but not every day, now.

26 this morning. It was looking rough this morning: 3 x 1 and then a 3. The last spin was a 20. LOL...

How was your visit with Eli? Did he find anymore bugs for you?

The theater was a mad house. The Fireside was actually open last night for a holiday concert that I forgot about so I didn't get out of there til 8:15 because I had to help seat there. I also got to help on the ramp to make sure people got to the dining room for the Fireside theater and there are lots of twists and turns to get there. On weekends, it can be extra confusing because we have the main, Fireside, Playhouse and often times special events (weddings, birthdays, Bar/Bat Mitvas, etc) and there are a lot of guests.

It is sad that people will stay in a potentially harmful relationship. I don't like being single; it gets lonely..regularly but I am secure in who I am. I am also a proponent of speaking up if I said something that ticks you off. Don't let someone else do your dirty work.

Oh - so maybe HE is the problem. It's a pity that a lot of women (and men) put up with an abusive partner.

I hope you had a good night at the theatre.

I had Eli again today. It's the last time for a while because his Mum is now on holiday.

I slept much better last night! I am feeling better too. :-) Her husband actually commandeered her phone to tell me! I actually think he may be emotionally abusive, based on the text he sent and how I have seen him interact on FB and how she is; I have only met him twice. At this point, all I can do is pray.

They will check both eyes...Okay! We shall see (lol) what happens. I just hope the drive goes well for you.

I work the theater tonight. Only the main theater is open; the comedy club and concerts are generally on Saturday and Sunday with the occasional Sunday and/or Monday exception for the concerts.

The appointment for the eyes is both eyes. I guess they will check to see if/when I will have surgery. I don't know which eye they will work on, but the right one seems worse to me.

Some people's behavior is worse on FaceBook than in person. I guess they have a false sense of power on the keyboards LOL! The fact that you were dumped through her husband shows she doesn't have much substance that she can't do her own 'dirty work'. I wouldn't be wasting my time thinking about her.

That is great that you got your appointment rescheduled!!! I don't blame you for not wanting to drive during rush hour. That's actually part of the reason I prefer earlier shifts if I have to go into the office.

I hope the appointments goes well. May the breast appointment have nothing to find. Is the cataract one for the extra bad one? I assume it's just the consultation.

Sadly, I slept horribly last night. I got dumped by a friend! Through her husband no less and then unfriended and blocked on good ol' Facebook. I was totally gobsmacked; apparently, I am extra judgmental and she didn't have the balls to discuss with me. At least I don't work the theater tonight. Woo hoo! A positive. Some peoples children.

A miserable 8 tonight.

I had a better sleep last night, too. I was really tired today, tho', so had a power nap this a/noon - 40 minutes - but it was enough to do the trick.

I got notice today that my Cataract Appointment is at the hospital on Saturday. It WAS at 9:20a.m. but I phoned them and asked what the peak traffic was like at that time because I had a long way to go and got a bit nervy in city traffic. She was good. She had a look and made the appointment for 1:20 p.m. instead. So tomorrow I go to the hospital an hour away to see the Breast Surgeon, and then Saturday I go to South Auckland about 1 1/2 hrs away.

I'm glad your headache went. It's funny (weird) what lack of sleep can do to a person.

Your sister is sitting tight in the hospital. Indeed, wait and see. I do so hope she gets some answers and a decent treatment plan so she can get working on healing. It's a tough time of year to be sitting in the hospital.

It's Monday already. Ugh. My weekend was much too short, what with the 5k and working late on Saturday. That caused me to sleep later than usual on Sunday morning so I was super busy trying to get everything done for the week. Thankfully, I slept well last night and my headache due to lack of sleep is gone.

77 Points tonight.

my sister has been told today that she will be in hospital until the end of the week. I guess we have to wait and see, and take it one day at a time. I've spoken to her a couple times today. She had the X-ray and ultrasound around mid-day.

23 for me this morning

Nuts! Neither of you won big. Tragic...lol. It's good to hear you and your cousin are enjoying each other's company,

Your sister is back in the hospital? This is not good news. I hope she feels better quickly and figures out what is going on quickly.

The race went well enough. I was reminded as to why 5ks can be extremely frustrating. They do attract a lot of people, many of whom have have bad race etiquette and the walkers spread out so you spend a lot of time dodging people. At any rate, my friend and I had a nice time.

I worked the theater last nigh in the coat check. We had a huge group for the concert and it was a longer concert. The group was really slow at leaving so I didn't get out of there until almost 11:30 PM and therefore slept horribly. I am glad it's Sunday and I don't have to work.
