I remember the Berlin Wall-- I stood at that wall and could see the guards stationed at their look-out points, with their guns. It was a very sobering experience, back in the late sixties. What a celebration when the wall came down!--

High interest rates in the '80's..A $1,000 CD at a savings and loan could yield 15% or more....Also, gifts such as a blender, toaster or a Timex watch for opening a new account. (Last month I earned 3 cents interest on my checking account.)

Oh-- the sweet memories on this board!

My mom wore housedresses always. The apron was over the dress.
In 1970- I gave her her first pants suit. She protested, but later tried it on.
That was a turning point (as they say)- and mom loved the comfort of pants.

God grant me the strength to reach my goal.

Ziggy, I spent hours making those cassettes :)

I remember when "Washington Square" by the Village Stompers came out. I had the little 45 of it. It's on an oldies station on the TV my husband's listening to right now emoticon

Something 'kids these days' will never know or realize the time and effort it took..to make mix cassettes by taping the songs off the radio! We would wait for the hit songs to come on the countdown at night, and press record when it started playing. SO glad that's not the case anymore! Now we have Pandora to basically create one for us, phew!

....when long distance calls had to be placed through the Long Distance Operator at the telephone company. You were charged according to the type of call you wanted to make and also the amount of time the call lasted. Most callers would ask to be notified in 3 minutes so they would not have such a large bill to pay. Boy, have times changed!

When I first went to school, we had those little wooden desks hooked together in rows, they had a hole in each desk to hold the ink bottle, the teacher gave us bottles now and then, but took them away after awhile due to spillage and fooling around. We were taught how to fill the pens, though. Messy stuff, was a good thing to have modern pens.

Imavision, I remember using fountain pens in school. We filled them at our desks. There were two kinds. One had a kind of lever to draw up the ink, the other kind of pen had a bladder that you would squeeze and then fill.

Next they came out with cartridge pens which you just replaced the ink cartridges. That's what my current Mont Blanc has.

Around the same time ballpoint pens got popular.

Can you tell I like writing and writing instruments? I could go on and on! emoticon

That's pretty cool (no pun intended!), Ethel - one's own meat locker at the butcher's! We had a freezer in the basement, and Mom would stock up on all kinds of bakery goodies when they were on sale.

Guess who'd eat 'em? Yep, here I am on Sparks at age 64...a victim of my own helplessness by the family freezer :)

Your parents rented a meat locker at the butchers, and you had a key so you could go downtown and bring home some meat for the evening meal, we kids were allowed to go get a piece of meat, because the butcher knew us, lol.

Ethel, Tab and coffee (now there's a hideous concoction!) kept me awake at work for years! And I was grateful when Sego joined the ranks of Metrecal. I thought it was richer and more palatable, too! Chippee, oh, can I relate! I'm sure I dieted my way to obesity, too...and it didn't seem to take me any time at ALL!

Don't feel badly, Chippee, I've been at it since age 12 1/2, and an article from "Teen Magazine".......doing a 1,000 cal. a day diet, from those little booklets in grocery stores, where the candy was where you stood waiting for the cashier! I graduated to Metrecal when I was 13 or 14..............worked my way up to phone calls from Richard Simmons...............and so it goes!!

I remember " the Metrecal for lunch bunch", never tried it, though. I was a bit too young. The weight watching didn't start too much later for me though. I truly believe I dieted my way to obesity. Man, that word was really difficult for me to write.

I used to mix Sego canned meal drink with Diet Rite soda to make sort of a chocolate soda like drink, later on, used Tab. Those Sego drinks tasted a lot like shakes, were made by Carnation co., I think. I lost weight on Metrecal, too, not good tasting though, and they had awful tasting spice cookies, you could feel the cellulose pieces......oOf course you lost weight, only 900 calories a day!!!
