When an operator placed a "station to station" call meant for anyone who answered or a "person to person" call specifically for the person called.

Love this! I remember watching the Thriller Video for the first time, my huffy bicycle with the pink banana seat, the local "mom and pop" pharmacy instead of a cvs on every corner, donuts that came from a bakery and were a treat after a sleepover party, playing outside from the moment we woke up until my parents yelled for us from the front door.

I'm old enough to remember when I had to wait for a tape to load on my dad's Commodore 64 in order to play a video game at home. I'm old enough to have longed for the pink Huffy bike with the rectangle-ish seat instead of the bike I had with the flowered banana seat. I'm old enough to remember Oven Melts. I'm old enough to have become a member of the Shaun Cassidy fan club.

Duck & Cover...WOW I haven't thought about that in a long time...Bobby Rydell(sigh)..Ozzie & Harriet, Ricky Nelson (another sigh), Howdy Doody, Sky King, Cisco Kid, Kit Carson, Broken Arrow (I loved westerns)...The Children's Hour & Willie the Worm (for all you Philly Boomers). Even with our TV Programs we were outside playing by 9, home for lunch @ noon, back outside 'til dinnertime...being allowed to play outside after dinner (as long as you stayed on our street) until the street lights came on...Boy, those were the days!!!!! emoticon

Every time I watch a Seinfeld rerun, I can't help but wonder about how many episodes could have been prevented if they'd had cell phones.

Only radio shows (no TV),people didn't lock their doors at night, I got $.25 on Saturday afternoon to go to the movies with my cousins - that paid for the movie, a bag of popcorn, and a Coco-Cola. After the movie we walked about 2 blocks over to my granddad's barber shop and he would give all of us, a nickle for a double scoop ice cream cone at the bus station and a nickle to ride home on if we had spent the last nickle of the twenty five cents at the theater. It was 10 to get in and five for the drink and five for the popcorn. I also remember Campbells Canned Soup was five cents a can and a box of Saltine Crackers were 10 cents and bread and milk were cheap too. We didn't have air conditioning. We had high school football in the Fall and basketball in the winter and field sports in the spring. There were no little leagues. And we all spent the summers and falls and winters and springs playing outside, not in front of a TV, Game screen or computer.

Not having call waiting or caller id. We actually had to pick up the phone to know who was calling. And if we got a busy signal we would have to keep calling people back.

I still have my skate key from my metal roller skates I had when I was a kid. If you lost your key you could buy a new one in the local hardware store. We used to wear them around out necks on a long shoelace.
