Treadmill Torture

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

What is your definition of hell? Mine is the 10 miles that I just spent on my treadmill. There is a major snowstorm going on here right now and the city workers are on strike so even if I wanted to go outside the roads haven't been plowed in two days, which would mean I'd have to go running with snow shoes on.

It took everything in me to stay on that treadmill. After every mile I had to talk myself into another one. I'm starting to think that a spring marathon was a really bad idea since training in the winter is no fun at all. I'm sick of the treadmill and I find running on it to be 80% mental ability and 20% physical ability. I'm so looking forward to spring!

Me too! I have started run/walk (prepping for 5k in Mar) Well, when the time change happened I couldnt run in the dark. So I can barely make a mile running on the treadmill, it's no fun, I cant lengthen my stride I just cant "kick" it up when I feel like it! (Plus once I had the treadmill malfunction -- it wouldnt slow down eek!)

I ran outside for the first time in months (bad weather here) and it was phenomenal. I cut massive time off my 3 mile and Im sure I ran more this time than walked.

I absolutely love your sparkpage. Keep running!

Oh my gosh, Sarah! I JUST did this SAME thing on Sunday!!! LOL - and you know what? It SUUUUUUCKED! LOL. I also had to talk myself into running another mile, each and every single time. Ugh. I didn't enjoy it at all, and I can't wait to get outside again! But you did it!!!!! That's the amazing part, right? You made it through. You are dedicated. You are a runner. And you know what? Come Spring, you're going to be in Marathon shape! You don't have to wait until Summer! :) That's what I keep telling myself. We're just a few steps ahead! So hang in there, it's worth it. And on marathon day, you will NOT regret it!

Oh, I hear you on the torture! Can you watch tv or anything? Last Sunday, I did a 12 miler on my treadmill, but had dvr'ed a movie. It was still *challenging* to keep going, but I was at least entertained!

    Good Luck!
