10 lbs. ankle weights

Sunday, January 06, 2008

So here I am, trying everything under the sun to bump up my THR numbers when I do my daily run.. My brother, Dave and I are doing that rare post Christmas shopping thing when we do a double take after happening upon a set of 10 lb. ankle weights. "What a great thing to try to bump up your THR", Dave assures and advises me. Hah! I laugh as I gingerly strap them on -- the irony not getting lost on me -- and then I ask Dave: "isn't this the 10lbs that I just lost a couple weeks ago???!!!" Well, today's the first day wearing my 10 lb. ankle weights on my run -- which I was a bit apprehensive to wear, quite honestly, because of the broken bones, torn ligaments/tendons and stuff in my left foot (hey -- wasn't that a movie or something a long time ago??). I felt like I was wearing cement shoes -- and this isn't such a good thing for a 100% Italian girl!! I gingerly walked around the gym with the cumbersome weights strapped on both ankles looking and walking much like a child who needed its pants changed!!! It's amazing what 10 lbs really feels like -- that's a heck of a lot of weight!!!
I'd like to think that a guest appearance on The Sopranos wearing my new cement shoes was in the offing .. but alas, Tony, Carmela Paulie Walnuts and the gang have completed their run and they're all safely back at Satriale's having a sit down, drinking Espresso, eating biscotti and talking about the next whacking they're gonna do!! Cement shoes anyone??????????

Lol! I can just imagine you tottering about like a toddler, learning to walk for the first time! How funny! I use ankle weight too but they are only about 3 or 4lbs each! Now too bad.

LOL, you're really quite a writer! I can just picture you "waddling" around the first time you put those weights on. That's supposed to be really great exercise for toning and strengthening muscles... Now you've got me motivated to dig around in the boxes in my basement to find my old ankle weights!

Yeah, ..... think I'll go out and buy me some of those cement shoes.... ! Can hardly wait to have the option to strap on ten pounds and then take them right off!!!! Just to clarify ~ 10 lbs each, or 5 lbs each?

There's an eyeopener.. Ten pounds seems like so much more when you are holding it in your hands than what we pretend it isn't when it is part of our lap! Thanks again for being a mentor to so many.
