Am taking a Break - any ideas?

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

With Diwali (easily the biggest indian festival) around the corner, i am forced to take a break - am off to my in-laws place thursday and am so busy shopping have no time to exercise. and once i reach my in-laws the will power will all the goodies is gonna be difficult. But i am going to try to:

1. Drink lots of water
2. Not allow myself to get bullied into taking that second helping however tasty the food is
3. Sweets - hmmm just take a piece enough to be polite

Anyone with ideas so that i dont gain too much weight?

I'm so excited for you!! I'm sure you're going to have loads of fun.

You know what I did - last Ganapathi Visarjan, I was invited to a good friend of mine's house to celebrate the "Maharashtran" way for 3 DAYS..i took these days off while i was still enrolled in a naturopathy clinic (which btw is on the fence of being dangerous and healthy). Imagine the doctor wanted me to weigh in before I left..and the day after i returned!! i was sooo scared that i would gain weight!!
What I did was this: I enjoyed ALL the food - no second helpings, drank loads of water, did 24 surya namaskars every morning each of those days PLUS tons of dancing with my friend (on the terrace). didn't care if neighbors were pulling up their chairs of laughter entertainment or not. I did NOT gain weight!! can you believe it? I did maintain, but that was ok by me since i wanted to enjoy the festivities. imagine - i had modhaks, chaats, and other things - but limited myself.

now..why can't i seem to do the same daily here?? lol!

enjoy your time, which i'm sure you will..and make an excuse to all to have garba or bhangra or fusion or classical or whatever type of dancing you like. it'll help burn those calories.

Terinan had good suggestions too.. walking helps as well.

def.... would love to hear about your experience after Diwali. it's this Friday for us. wish i was there!!

and thanks so much for the blog comment - and being there.

My suggestion for not gaining too much weight on your break (i just returned from a 2 week vacation and had LOST weight!! but i am sure it was muscle mass, because I was doing lots of strength work before) is to STAY ACTIVE! Walk a lot, don't sit down all the time. When you can walk, rather than stand and talk to friends and family, do it! If you can stand instead of sit, do that, etc etc. Your other goals are good! Good luck and tell yourself you will get back to SparkPeople when you return.
