The Proof is in the Fat-Free Pudding

Tuesday, October 09, 2007

So, I'm on SparkPeople for 52 days now. That's a record for me. 52 days. Usually, I try a weight loss program for 2-3 weeks and that little devil on my shoulder convinces me that sleeping that extra 1/2 hour in the morning will feel SOOO much better than getting out of my warm bed and actually USING my sore muscles to work out and it kinda snowballs from there. Well, this past weekend that little devil was really poking me in the ribs with his pitchfork. It was my daughter's 16th birthday and we had the typical teenager junk food at her bowling party (yes, I tried to actually sneak something physical into the festivities). Those Doritos were not just calling my name, they were screaming, "Eat Me!" Oh, and it didn't stop there... potato chips, pizza, CAKE! Poke, poke, poke went the pitchfork. So, it's Monday and I'm feeling hungry all day. Does processed food do that to you? Make you hungry all day? Maybe I was trying to eat the guilt I was feeling from eating all that junk on Saturday. Then that little angel starts blowing in my other ear. You know, I've been doing the program for 50+ days and I AM down 5 pounds but I just don't SEE any difference when I look in the mirror. I have been on the scale at least once a week but I hadn't done my measurements since I started so I dug out my measuring tape just to see. Hallelujah! I am so excited! I lost 3 inches from my waist and 2 and 1/2 inches from my hips! For someone who's only 5 ft. 1, that's a big deal. Okay, so now I'm back on track... gotta climb back on that rusty wagon (I feel rusty, okay?). Hand me the fat-free pudding.

My weight has been up and down, mostly matching whatever is going on with my life. A couple years ago, I was down to 135 and feeling great. Then, shortly after I had a surgery in September 2013, my daughter got diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. It was discovered that it came from my husband so, between the 2 of them, there were 6 surgeries in 2014 and 4 more in 2015. I've been so busy focusing on them that I'm now up to 155. My husband hasn't worked since May of 2015 so I'm working 2 jobs to pay the bills. I want to get working out again but I'm always so tired I can't get motivated to move. Sigh.
