My First 5K Race

I DID IT! I RAN MY FIRST 5K RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was TOUGH!!! I ran with my friend (this was the first time I had ever run with her) who was pushing her baby in a jogging stroller. We started out at much too fast of a pace not realizing it because the race course was not clearly marked as to how far we had run. So, by 1.5 miles, I was about to lose it. I had cramps in both of my sides and could barely breathe. The heat and humidity was horrific! I kept up with my friend until about 2.25 miles. By this point, I was about in tears from hurting so badly. We hit a small hill that I wasn't prepared for and had not trained for. I told her to go on ahead as she has been a runner for awhile and I didn't want to ruin her time because I couldn't keep up. At so many points during the race, I thought about just stopping and walking the rest of the way. But I kept telling myself that I wasn't going to give up and that I was going to finish this race even if I was barely running at all. I finally made it to about 2.8 miles and the finish line was in sight. My friend came back out and met me and ran the rest of the way in with me. I finished at 37:57.37 - a pace of 12:14 min/mile. I was number 12 out of 14 in my age group (women 30 to 39). I was number 135 out of 156 for the entire race. I finished! I am a runner! I'm in tears right now just thinking about the fact that I actually did it. I made a slide show of pics at http://tinyurl.com/34v7wk
