It's My First!!

Friday, August 31, 2007

It's my very first blog entry ever!! How exciting! Since this is on SparkPeople, I think I'll make my very first entry one about my lifestyle change endeavor. In the past month I've done really great with exercising, averaging a cardio workout about 6 days out of every week. What I've been trying to do is to turn working out into a habit, like brushing my teeth. I think it's finally working too! Lately I've found myself looking forward to the end of the day so I could jump on my treadmill. In the past month, I've increased my speed (I'm walking - easier on the joints) and the length of my workout. At first, I thought I wasn't going to make it 30 minutes, but lately I've been up to about 42 minutes. Watching an epsiode of Gray's Anatomy (I've never watched the show and have been renting the DVD's from Netflix) has certainly helped. I get so involved in the show tha I forget I'm on the treadmill. I love it (the show and the feeling)! Last wk, I bought a DVD with a resistance band and I plan on adding that as my strength training soon.

I've been amazed at how much better I feel lately. I even went off of one of my antidepressants - the one that was supposed to help my energy level. I've always had trouble sleeping and had cut out caffeine at the beginning of the year, but was still not getting enough restful sleep. That hasn't been nearly as bad lately. This morning I was actually dancing around the bathroom as I got ready for work. Weird, but great!

Now the eating is not going nearly so well. Yesterday I ate everything sweet that I could possibly get my hands on...and it was a lot. Part of it I blame on hormones and part of it I blame on not seeing any movement on the scale and being very frustrated. Not that packing in the sweets was helpful in the least. Well, today is another day and I'm going to take comfort in the fact that I'm doing great on the exercise front and every day is a chance to do better.
