I Don't Want Prizes, I Just Want to Lose the Weight!!!

Sunday, June 06, 2021

I have been on SP for 11 years now and have lost the full amount of weight to be healthy and have maintained first time wt. loss to me~8 mos, 2nd time wt. loss 1 yr., and now I realize I need to be on SP every day as the reason why I gained the wt. back was when I was not on SP. Those times I maintained it was b/c I was on SP. emoticon emoticon
So, I finally realize it HAS to be a regular part of life ~and now on Aug.17,2021, Sparkpeople will be no more. It will be changed into SparkAmerica. People are competing in different cities for prizes. At least, that is what I got out of the article on SP about it.
I know I just want to lose the weight and guess I will find something like my DH suggested: My Fitness Pal. I know I will miss all my SParkfriends and the Sparkneighborhood. I always loved the HOPE that people brought to this site. And the fact that I could BEAT my family's history of obesity made me feel I could do it and I have and I will again! emoticon emoticon
What's sad ,too, is this will be my last 5% Summer Challenge. Well, I still want to be
MOM WANTS NO WAIST [ I really don't want much of a waist b/c THAT is where my body stores the fat and I will achieve my goal again because I have done it before.
But I will miss sharing it with the friends I made at Spakpeople. emoticon emoticon emoticonNOTE: I am not good at linking up articles so to find this article go to MESSAGE BOARDS ~SparkCafe ~Sparkpeople shutting Down in August.

Hi! I am very saddened that SP will shut down as I look to my friends for support in my weight loss journey. I know that I will find it on the google group site but it won't be the same and Spark America doesn't look too good to me anyway. I have enjoyed your blogs and your positive encouragement. Your comment on my Spark Page made my day. I thank you again for it.

Thanks for the update. Too bad this was not a featured article - it should have been. I agree it's part of my everyday routine and one of the reasons I never regained my weight. I will really miss this site - it's been a great 10+ years.

I did register on the site to have a look, but I'm not sure I will stay. I will probably start logging my info on the FitBit site. Not the same as being here, but it's the next best thing. I will miss reading blogs and getting and receiving support.

    So DIsappointed!

The SparkAmerica360 appears to be going after corporate wellness. I'll give it a look, but going to try 4-A-Healthy-BMI's site, too.

    Jus shocking.

I was not expecting this news. I will find a way to manage. I cherish the friends I have made here on sparkpeople.

I found Spark Oct. 2010, so I've been here almost 11 years, too. I looked to Spark not only for the physical health benefits, but for the social and emotional encouragement just as much. Have made many friends and shared life's journey. Great support from my Spark family when I was going through major loss and health issues. I think I'm in shock as I didn't see this coming. I don't plan on joining Spark America, so we'll have to find another way to stay in touch.

I read the article and I checked it out, not my thing. I will most likely go back to My fitness. I usually don't mind change it is good, but this is very drastic and much different. What's sad is I made so many friends. Sorry so many posts it took awhile with my computer to up load.

SparkAmerica looks quite familiar to me

I checked out the site. As they say "A Revolutionary Paradigm for Building a Healthy Workforce"
We had something similar several times in my working life.
I suppose it works for somebody, but I've been there & done that. I wasn't a fan.
SparkPeople was different. Too bad the best of both couldn't have been preserved.

There are plenty of places to find the resources SparkAmerica is describing..
I certainly hope it will be FREE.

Thank you for thinking of me and spreading the word. emoticon

Please do give the link shared by BROOKLYN_BORN a look.

A "lifeboat" has been established and there's no need for us to go down with the ship.

As BROOKLYN_BORN has suggested, I will be saving things important to me prior to the site going dark on August 17, 2021.

I think we have to take a step back and think about this. I have been on spark for 13 years and yes it is a great support system. I too will miss that but, we have learned a lot about nutrition, exercise and how to offer our support to others. I think we have to give Spark America a chance. It will be different and maybe not as good as what we are used to but it is what it is. Spark is not leaving us high and dry. They are giving us two months to join Spark America and to learn in that time what it is all about. I joined this morning and looked over the site. It will take getting some used to but it may work. Hopefully they will open it up to Canada and the other countries.l I think in the mean time I am going to start asking my spark friends who are not from the USA for their contact information. We have to carry on with what we have learned and not use this as an excuse to go backwords into our old ways. emoticon

It is significant that Spark buried this information in a resource thread and we only know about it because alert members have spotted it and shared it.

If SparkAmerica were truly an improvement would it not have been announced loudly and proudly with great fanfare? The daily Spark email was just the same old stuff.

I myself have joined the "lifeboat" - the google group alternative set up by a one of the team leaders of our team At Goal and Maintaining plus transition to maintenance.

You can find that information here
"I created a Google Group for Maintainers and Aspiring Maintainers" (by 4A-Healthy-BMI)

Meanwhile, it's important to save your blogs and recipes since they will disappear on Aug 17
