BLC 46 - Captain's Challenge

Consider the following questions when creating your goals:

1. What’s your “why” for setting this goal? What larger purpose will be served by attempting (and hopefully achieving) your goal?
**School. I started back to school and so need to focus a good portion of my attention to completing the course work and passing the classes. Completing this degree will lead to a more fulfilling job.
**Weight Loss. I need to lose weight to take pressure off my joints. This will make it easier to move with less pain. This in turn will let me lead my best life. However, with just starting school this focus will be lower on the priority list if a conflict arises between school and weight loss. I will focus on adding more fruits and vegetables instead of fried foods. Eat at home more that eating out (especially fast-food restaurants).
**Home. I need a clutter free, easily maintained home. I made a great start with the study now being (mostly) clutter free. I need to maintain my focus and continue culling the amount of stuff in the house. The less I have the less I need to maintain. The more time I have for other things.

2. What priority is this goal in your life? What other demands, including those from work, relationships, family, and side projects, will compete for your time and attention?
My highest priority is completing school. I will do whatever it takes to complete the courses with high grades (high enough to keep the “scholarship” from work. I am aiming for an A but will also accept a lower grade if I do my best work (anticipating problems from math courses, but I have friends and tutors available for help).
Priority 3 will be decluttering my home. Since cleaning out the one room I’ve realized that the clutter is affecting my stress and all other aspects of my life. I will focus on only one space this round to keep it simple and less stressful. If I accomplish this to where I am keeping the two areas (kitchen & study) clean and decluttered I can add another small area to the list.

3. What incentives have you created to reward yourself for achieving your goal, both at the end and along the way?
I have never had long-term success with rewards/incentives. My husband occasionally surprises me with things (like the Oculus just before Christmas because I had decluttered most of the living room). That excites and pleases me more the “earning” a reward. I don’t like holding off on something I need until X happens. I end disappointed in myself when I don’t meet a goal, which then leads to a time of pouting and rebelling against doing X.

We (DH) bought me a new laptop for school recently. This is my “reward” for going back to/completing my degree. We are heading back east for vacation (and a funeral) this summer. Hopefully I will be at a newer size where I can pick up a few new tops/outfits. That will be my reward. I have one top in my drawers that is a little too small, but so cute I want to wear it. Wearing it will be one of my rewards.

4. What things are “non-negotiable”? No matter the circumstances, create default decisions to get the work done (note: this helps avoid the inevitable “I just don’t feel like” moments)
1. Exercise 10 minutes daily. Non-negotiable. I will aim for more (often 30 – 60 minutes daily and more on the weekends) because I feel better when I do.
2. 30 minutes study time daily. Non-negotiable. I must study daily to do my best.
3. Eat only when hungry. I know it is tempting to eat before hunger truly hits (ooh, that looks yummy). However, if I eat only when hungry and to satiety rather than full I have less pain and it is easier to focus without the slump or food coma afterward.

Goals:
School:
1. Complete all assignments on time.
2. Complete all tests on time.
3. Discuss on threads in timely manner.

Weight Loss:
1. Eat only when truly hungry
2. Eat slowly, chewing well and savoring every bite.
3. Incorporate more fruits and vegetables and less fried food.
4. Drink more water than tea.
5. Exercise daily, even if only 10 minutes.
6. Complete all TT’s to the best of my ability.

Home:
1. Declutter kitchen counters
2. Declutter and clean fridge
3. Keep counters clean
4. Keep study clean
5. Take all donations to Good Will/charity.

Keep it simple!

    So many of your decluttering goals could be mine. One of my biggest problems is that I can clear clutter from an area in our home but my husband takes that as an open invitation to put stuff there then.

    And, the other thing, which I told my sister earlier today, I'm actually pretty lazy and if there's something more fun or interesting to do than clean, then that's what I tend to do.

    What are you taking at school? Do you have to work full-time at the same time?
