Week 18: Progress Report - Down 4.2 pounds!

Sunday, May 09, 2021

So wow. This week's weight loss is more than I lost in all of April! Although I think at least one pound of that total from this week, was due to some extra water weight last week. Whatever - I'm doing the happy dance after seeing the scale readout. It's nice to have a little boost to give you confidence that what you are doing is working.

Contributing factors:
I didn't have any crazy off the chart calorie days, so I was able to stick within my calorie budget everyday last week.
Plus I got more activity in. I did two short hikes, and three days this week I got up and went for a walk first thing in the morning - two of those days were before going to work!

Oh, AND I got this new sparkly trophy for passing 8500 sparkpoints. *sparkly trophy*

So staying within calorie budget everyday AND increased exercise definitely paid off this week. And due to my loss this week, I have now passed the half way mark for my first *really big* weight loss goal of 56 pounds (which will put me into the "overweight" category). So I'm kindof psyched about that. Although 56 lbs is likely not the final goal. But when I started, I read you ought to break things up into reasonable small goals you can achieve. This is why I plan for 1-2 pounds per week, and post a high, mid and low target weight loss goal for each month and quarter. And when I started, 56 pounds seemed a bit out of reach as it was (let alone what my final weight loss total might have been). BUT, I'm definitely inching closer and closer. Once I get there, then I can set another *really big* goal as needed.

So in other news. Sad news. My kitty Marley died this week. He had cancer in his upper back jaw and behind his eye, which according to three different vets, was the worst place to have it since surgery and radiation treatments weren't likely to help, and were more likely to make things worse. He was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago, and at that time my vet told me he likely only had about 4 weeks left. So he did beat the odds, but it became clear this last week that it was his time, and anything longer was for me and not him. It was such a difficult decision, and I'm still so heartbroken. I know it was the right decision to keep him from suffering. I've had several cats in my life, and still have another cat currently, but Marley was just a very very different cat. Extremely social, very interactive, very talkative and expressive, with lots of weird funny habits, and he was just a cool cat. The quietness in the house, and his absence has been rough this week. :( My other kitty and I have been spending some quality time together though, so I'm thankful for that too.

I did a quick overnight trip to visit my mom for Mother's day. I'd made this giant photobook on the shutterfly website, of pictures of our many fun activities and trips over the years. Just drove back today.

So the weekend is over and it's back to work again tomorrow. Our office volume has been picking up, which is of course good, but since it doesn't necessarily translate to me making more money or anything, it's really just been kindof a headache. I did learn we are going to move forward with hiring two additional staff, which should really help the rest of the office at least. So I'm happy for that because they've been overworked (in my opinion at least, but I'm not the decision maker) for quite awhile now.

So this week is looking quite busy between work, teaching and non-work appointments. I'm planning on continuing my get-up-early-and-walk-my-neigh
borhood-before-going-to-work streak this week. Friday night I'm scheduling in a short hike after work. Oh! And Saturday morning this week I have my contract writing class, which is the last big hurdle before I can officially apply for my real estate license. It's a 6 hr class though, so it's from like 8:30 to 2:30 - ugh, a long time to be doing anything. Hopefully that includes a few breaks, because you have to be on the ZOOM camera the whole time to get credit for the class!

Have a good week everyone!
Thanks for reading.

I am so sad to hear of the loss of Marley, and I know that feeling of losing the one special furbaby who claims your heart. We know from the beginning that their time with us is limited, but that doesn't make it any easier when the time comes to say the final goodbye. They come into our lives, they enchant us and make us their slaves, they make us laugh and frustrate us and provide comfort and purring when we need it. His love will stay with you always.

Super congrats on your progress so fair. Isn't it great to know that if you stay completely on track that you'll be on Onederland by July or maybe before. Worth staying on track for? emoticon

You're making such great progress - congratulations! And congrats also on having just one more hurtle on your path to you RE license.

Isn't funny how animals all have their own unique personalities, just as we do? People who have never lived closely with them would likely be surprised to discover how their little quirks enrich our lives. And there really are some that stand out in that regard and become very special. Marley sounds like one of those.

    Have a good week.

I'm so sorry you lost Marley, and understand the struggle between wanting more time and realizing that's a choice you're making for YOU, not for Marley. Each of our pets have such unique personalities and add a special joy to our lives. I know you will miss Marley, but also know you did what was best for HIM.
