Thought and Prayer for Sunday, May 9, 2021

Sunday, May 09, 2021

We know how hard it is for children to sit still in church and listen. They quickly lose interest as they begin to squirm, look around and some even fall asleep. Some adults have experienced a time when it was hard to listen in church. We find our minds wandering about what we need to do after church and some of us even get sleepy because we have been sitting for so long. However, we need to remember God’s message is being shared and there is something He wants us to learn while we are there.

As believers, we are the body of Christ and we are the church. The church is not the building. If we are relying on a message from God once a week that we may or may not pay attention to, then we are missing out on the entire message God has for the church. Also, we are missing out on many blessings from God. We, as believers, are the church and should always be listening to God. We can hear what God wants us to do as a member of the church as we read His word and as when listen to His Holy Spirit.

Revelation 1:3 “God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.” (NLT)

1. Write what you do to receive messages from God.
2. List ways you can be more open to hearing from Him.
3. Know you are part of the body of the Christ which is the church.
4. Be intentional about listening to God’s messages in the church and all through the week.

Dear Lord, we are so grateful to be a part of a body of believers that we call a church. We know the building is not the church but the people are. Help us to remember the messages for the church in Your word are for our own good. Help us to stay alert as You speak through our leaders in the church. Help us to seek Your messages all week long and not just on church days. We want to listen to Your messages and obey them understanding the urgency of Your messages. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 1:22-23 “God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.” (NLT)

Colossians 3:16 “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” (NLT)

Revelation 3:22 “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (NLT)
