The Pandemic Diaries - Year 2 - Weeks 3 to 5 - Manatees!!!

Thursday, April 22, 2021

Manatees! We found manatees! Took forever to get my photos organized, but here we are: our little trip out to western Florida to visit the West Indian manatees! And a few assorted other rescue animals as well.

They look like huge grey blimps, but have the cutest little puppy dog faces!

Love your pictures, and glad that you had a little outing. We are back under lockdown here in Ontario, until at least the 20th of May. I would love to get away somewhere... anywhere... for a couple of days, but it isn't allowed. Oh well, getting lots of projects done, discovering many new authors and catching up on movies and tv series... spending way too much time in front of the tv, I'm afraid.

Do you plan to stay in Florida until things have quieted down with Covid-19? It's definitely getting worse here, and we are still having problems getting vaccines. Years ago our governments cut way back on funding for the pharmaceutical industry, and it will be another year or two before we can produce significant quantities fo our own use, so we are dependent on what we can buy from other countries.

    Be well,
    Gail

Looks like you were doing what I always did when I was in Florida. So much to do there, so little time. Loved the pictures.

The manatees are such huge and gentle creatures! Never though about it before, but you're right . . . they DO have puppy dog faces! Adorable.

    Love the flamingos. Those legs!

    HUGS and thanks for sharing.

On a visit to Vero Beach many moons ago, our friends we stayed with took us along a canal in their boat to see the manatees.

    Great post and photos!
My son has lived in FL for maybe 7-8 years and does boat work so sees quite a few manatees and still thrills to the sight of them!

What a fun excursion!! So nice to be able to get out and about a little more!! And loved the photos -- those manatees are very appealing, it's all in the faces!! Could not have resisted that cut out photo op Really enjoyed seeing the other animals -- the puma! --and the birds. Wood storks always strike me as goofy "Big Birds" and the pink feet are a wonderful touch.

Wow, so much to comment on here!
You could be a wildlife tour guide.
Those manatees do look like grey rocks from above and HUGE! 10 feet long? I did not know that because the closest I ever got to one was on a T-shirt I bought in FL decades ago.

Love the HP reference - dementers indeed. Karate Kid too. Yep, you got it right.
