Week 14: Progress Report - down 1.6 lbs!

Sunday, April 11, 2021

WOO HOO! I'm so psyched to have lost 1.6 lbs this week, especially because of Easter and my dad's traditional custard pie - I had TWO slices, one on Saturday AND Sunday last week. And oh it was worth it!

This week was otherwise fairly hectic. Work has continued to get busier and busier recovering from Covid, so now my office is even busier than it was before covid hit last year. So it's good for business, especially since things were looking really bad a year ago, but it's not like I make more money or anything as a result - so it's starting to get back to being less fun and more stress.

But I'm on vacation this week.

I'm doing a much needed staycation to try and reset - WOOHOO. I finally did go for a nice hike on Saturday early evening. It's starting to get a bit warm here in Tucson these days. AND, I went for another hike this morning and explored a different set of trails that I had not been on before. The desert is still looking a bit scraggly, with just the beginnings of spring color starting to surface. It ought to be spectacular in another week or two as most of the prickly pears are full of flower buds as are the saguaros. Here's a few photos of an ocotillo, hedgehog cactus and a prickly pear in bloom:

Unfortunately, I might have overdid it a bit because I've got the startings of a blister on my foot. Ugh. So tomorrow I might skip the hiking - although that was my original goal to go every day this week. Instead, I was thinking a nice trip to the zoo might be a fun distraction with plenty of opportunity for walking.

I'm now officially ONE pound away from my 10% total body weight loss number. YES!! That feels great. Hopefully by upping the activity this week, I'll be singing about that next weekend.

I've been working on practice tests for my upcoming state real estate exam. I signed up for a "crammer" program which generates practice tests, and they say once you can achieve over 80% three times in a row, that they guarantee you'll pass the state exam. Which I've done as of today (my last practice test exam was a 92%!!). My test is on Wednesday, so if you think about it - please send a positive thought my way that day.

My kitty unfortunately most likely has cancer of his upper jaw - according to the vet the location is about the worst place to get it since it can't be surgically resected or treated with radiation. I'm still in denial about it - the pathology wasn't definitive (but "highly concerning for" cancer). He had a bad infection in this area because his bottom tooth pokes into the same spot on top of all that, so we've been treating the infection. He seems to be acting reasonably normal still. So I'm keeping an eye on him.

I'm playing along with the 5% Spring Challenge - team Firecrackers! So I was able to post a loss for my first week (the goal being you lose 5% of your total weight and post a loss each week to become the Last Firecracker Sizzling!). I'm still figuring out what I'm supposed to be doing on the challenges, etc., but think I'm finally on top of it for this new week. Hope to contribute lots of activity points to the weekly team challenge this week too!

The plan for today (which didn't actually get done), was to review in my "life planner" book, the goals I had set forth for the quarter (Jan - Mar), and to start sketching out what the next quarter is going to look like. I've got weight loss / exercise goals, real estate goals, finance goals, self improvement goals, etc. And while I haven't formally reviewed my stuff yet, I believe that I did pretty well with what I set out to do in the 1st quarter! So I'm kindof psyched about that too. All this goal accomplishing might really go to my head!

Ok, that's it for me. Enjoy your week!
Thanks for reading.

So sorry your cat has such a devastating diagnosis. Not to diminish your situation, I had one cat that was really sick, labs were all off and because of his age (18), between the vet and myself we decided the best option was to put him down. I couldn’t do it that day. I had young grandchildren and my children who were all very attached to him. I wanted them to be able to say goodbye to him. This was on a Friday and on Monday I called the vet to cancel the appointment to put him down because he had improved immensely and was back to his usual self. Was glad I didn’t do it on Friday as he then lived another year and half. Just a story about hope and God’s presence. Be positive and hope your kitty does well. emoticon emoticon

Congrats on your loss! Pretty flower pics. That's awesome that you can go walking in the dessert. So sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope you get to spend some more quality time with him. It's so hard to think of losing them or to see them suffering. emoticon Good-luck on your Real Estate test. Have a great vacation!

Well done, sometimes those few extra calories jumpstarts the metabolism. So happy for you.

Love the photos of the desert....so dramatic. Not so dissimilar to Andalucia in the summer.

Sorry to hear about your poor cat.

Have a nice time at the zoo if you decide to go in the end.

Wow, the desert scenery looks so alien to me! A bunch of my family went to Arizona a few years ago, but I was in school and couldn't come...
