Rolling with the punches

Thursday, March 25, 2021

One thing that can be said for sure is that rolling with the punches is starting to become a way of life for me. Letting things "be" - helping out where I can - saying "no" - big steps for me going on. At least for today. LOL

Expressing myself without fear of repercussion has been put to the test. I weighed my options, I listened, and I spoke up when the opportunity presented itself. I kept my cool and confidentiality in tact. Will expressing concerns make a difference?...we shall see. The power to change is not in my control here. The only thing I can do is support and recommend.

My work-wife has decided to quit...I'm sad that she's going. I'm sad that being overworked and underappreciated led up to her decision to leave. She doesn't work under me, or else she would still be there because I would have made changes long ago to better the situation.

On the upside, I'm rounding out the week with a director's meeting....many companies coming together to share best practices. This hour before it is my lunch hour. I take my lunch hour now when I can. Part of my self-care promise. At the office, it is harder some days than others. It's easier to grab a sandwich and eat at my desk than to eat out or go somewhere to literally waste time. Did that twice this week - ate a granola bar on Tuesday 190 cals, at a Panera sandwich on Wednesday 800 cals. I guess it balances all out, right?

Changes in CDC guidelines are changing things quickly...people being vaxxed are opening up the playing field at work and at home. It was nice to see my family without wearing a mask last weekend! I am looking forward to Easter now! And being outside is a bonus!! Bring on the warmth and sunshine!

I am using my last vacation day of 2020 tomorrow. 4 Fridays off in a row! Am I more rested?- yes indeed. In fact, I felt like I could have worked last Friday...I was spinning my wheels a bit. It's nice to finally say that I'm look at the calendar and not have an anxiety attack.

My BFF and I have dabbled into CBD oils in the past week. She got me some samples. I tried one and it was like tasting a geranium! Smell a geranium and that's the taste that was left behind! LOL I call it geranium juice. One was super strong tasting....the other not so much. Guess which one worked on me? The strong tasting one, of course!! LOL I spaced out the samples to really observe the effects: think a glass of wine without any buzz, a relaxing of the mind and body but completely alert and AOK. It's the weirdest thing. I slept like a baby. Driving home from work I tried the last of the geranium juice to see how it handled after-work tension. Within a half hour I was chill - If you ever drank Yogi brand Kava tea...that's the effect. Dude...I ordered a bottle for myself. I have never smoked pot, but CBD hemp oil...organically grown...tested like crazy...yeah, I'll give you a try for sure.

Time for the meeting! Should be fun! Enjoy the rest of the day!!!

I'm sorry about the situation at work. We lose many valuable employees for the reasons you describe.
Never tried the oils. Many allergies to fragrances.

Rest and take care of yourself.
The future looks a lot brighter than it did a year ago.

Hi there! Yes, roll with the punches as you must...
Your job/workplace does sound stressful, but I suppose you carry important responsibilities.
Being able to unwind and leave work at work is important. Appreciate the sanctuary of home and family!
Stress eating...ugh! You can run that granola bar/fat sandwich balance for now, but be aware that feeding your body nutritionally will be better by far in the long run. I call it the cycles or seasons. A time for everything.
    Rest. Stay focused. Spark on!

Not feeling appreciated is the #1 reason people quit jobs.
