Running in the Fall !?!
Wednesday, March 03, 2021
If fall is the season when the leaves fall off the trees, the beginning of March is definitely our fall. Oh, yeah, there are a few trees in Florida, like the swamp maples, that color a bit and then lose their leaves in the winter, but those are very few. Most of our trees and all our many oak trees (live oaks, water oaks, laurel oaks, etc) put out their new leaves now and push out the old leaves. The new leaves are pale green and the dark green leaves that fall turn brown very quickly. And we have the tabebuia trees in yellow and purple that get their flowers dramatically before their leaves. And then there are flowering trees with blossoms that usually gently fall, but on today looked like colored snow flurries.
Today was a big rain storm with lots of wind and water. The streets were spotted with leaves and blooms and some places five inches thick and wet and slippery. Ten foot square areas turned the asphalt. brown. And, of course, there were puddles and streams on either side of the street.
Casey and I did the warm up walk carefully -- okay, I was careful and more or less in control. Then I did a run-walk without Casey of :20/:40 intervals. I hadn't run for a month or so. I've had concerns about my back (SI joint) and my feet (metatarsal pain) but no trouble today. So I'm scheduled to rejoin my running group for the first time since the pandemic this Saturday at 6am, with lights and water, to run-walk 4 miles. I can't wait!!
