Two years ago, after having a cardioversion, my cardiologist recommended I get a fitness tracking device which includes monitoring my heart rate.
UNtil then I had been using a Fitbit One. It was easy. I could just clip it to my sock or hat brim when exercising.
I changed to a FitBit INspire HR. It is a watch. I was not particularly happy a bout it being a watch. You see, I love funky watches, big watches. To have to wear a fitness device all of the time cramps my style.
My sleep doctor was pleased because it more accurately tracks my sleep patterns.
Over time, I got used to this Fitbit watch. It sends all of my fitness data to SParkPeople seamlessly.
Then two weeks ago I had to upgrade the Operating SYstem on my MAC computer. ( I already m mentioned how doing this lost all of my photos and music files. IN fact almost daily I find more and more things which no longer work). SInce that upgrade, my FitBit no longer syncs with my online account. Thankfully it still works with my phone. I have spent hours trying to get it to work again. Today I finally read that this is happening to all MAC users.
I asked myself why I was trying so hard to get it to work.
I realized the answer is because TRACKING is one of the keys to success on this journey.

How often do you track your fitness? I do it daily.
HOw often do you track your food intake? I do it for every meal.
Even when I mess up. Even when I over eat. Even when I have sweets. Even when I eat too many carbs. I always track my food.
I admit during the 12 years I have been on SP I have lapsed at times, from tracking. Those were not healthy times in my life. I was having family issues. I was using food for comfort.
SInce then, I have never gone without tracking, food and fitness.

Tracking is a key to success. It is a healthy habit we need.

    Ugh, so frustrating when you lose so much; you just have to view it as an opportunity for a fresh start. I’m on my second Fitbit Charge 2. My original was the little clip one like yours, I did like the simplicity of it. I’ve somehow lost the auto-sync feature and hope I can figure out how to get it back.

    Nice tracker! It looks like mine. I wear a FitBit Inspire 2 Tracker every day. I have worn many different FitBIts over many years. I walk a minimum of 10,000 steps daily. I too live and breathe for tracking everything in my life. Tracking has been a big part of my success.

    I track most of the time, but there have been times when I have purposely not tracked like when I was doing intuitive eating to recover from bulimia. Tracking does help a lot with being successful (especially tracking your fitness), and I especially like tracking the macros because if you are trying to build muscle it is important to make sure you get the right amount of protein and carbs, etc. Oh, and a tip for if you like to wear fancy/funky watches, you know on Amazon you can buy really cool wristbands for the Fitbit and they are very cheap! I have one that is "rose gold metal" and it has all kinds of fake diamonds in it. Just a thought! Keep Sparking and stay healthy. emoticon

    I track my exercise with my Apple watch. Much more accurate than the Fitbit I was using (Fitbit Alta).

    Great blog, Ruthie! I used to have a Fitbit, but then my son bought me an Apple Watch. I think I have either a series 2 or 3. It tracks my fitness and heart.

    I can't live without my Fitbit. It's an important part of my everyday life. I only track it through my iPhone and then it automatically gets to my laptop (Mac too).

    yeah.. hmmm is Mercury in retrograde?????.... When my first time my fitbit stops syncing... I go look at the fitbit forum... and usually I find they have an issue with some sort of upgrade...or change they made... They are pretty good at staying on top of things. :)

    I agree with you, as I track everyday, both fitness and food. Being diabetic this is important for me as it lets me know how many carbs I have consumed. I do my exercise cause I need to know how much cardio and how much weights and other exercises I do. This is giving me a gage on my daily activity. I love this feature in Spark and it probably was one of the major reasons I joined Spark.

    Little did I know back then how much more Spark is. Keep on tracking. I find when I don't I also make very unhealthy choices for me. emoticon

    I am quite faithful with tracking fitness. I do have a problem always tracking food although I know that I should. My Fitbit tracks my heart rate, sleep, steps, etc. and I really love that.

    emoticon I am totally onboard and in agreement with you on tracking. Believe it or not, these tracking tools here on the website are the main reason I joined SP since Day One. Before that I was manually calculating daily tracking and nutritional information, and my exercise. Sparkpeople makes this much, much easier.

    A lot of times I preplan and put in the food and if it goes over I make another choice. Or I check to see what The servings are so I don’t go over. I use the food tracker all the time. Fitness, I am not doing a lot to get my heart rate up and can’t wait till spring.

    speaking of tracking when my garmin died my daughter got me a new watch . it wont record my steps etc to sparkpeople. also it needs way more charging so what it records is not correct, last night i went down cellar 3 times and then realized yep iit charging. i do need to track my food though emoticon

    I never had luck with the gadgetry. Bought a tracking watch from Macys and returned it once I could not get it to work. The clerk who sold it to me had no idea how it worked either! .... emoticon Life was simpler in cave days. Call me prehistoric but am done trying. I do track simply on Sparks.

    I had a Fitbit one and then upgraded to a Fitbit Inspire. One of the reasons I picked that model is because it's one of the only newer Fitbits you can still wear in a clip instead of a watch. I didn't want to wear it as a watch either so I bought the clip accessory and I clip it to my bra.

    You are so right that tracking is something that really helps. I track my fitness every day and I also have a fitbit. But I still have issues consistently tracking what I eat. I will improve. And funny I love watches as well - all kinds and have a lot of them. So what I do is wear my fitbit on one wrist and a funky watch on the other..LOL emoticon emoticon

    I love my Fitbit, but not the ugly band that came with it. Luckily, it is really easy to switch bands. I switched to a really sparkly metal band I found on Amazon, but will switch again in the summer to a more swimming friendly band.

    The main thing is that tracking is so, so important. Tracking our food, steps, exercise, and even sleep is crucial. In your case the HR feature is essential too. Thanks for the reminder of this essential part of our healthy lifestyle journey! emoticon

    I've been around here almost as long as you - how cool. I just hit 11 years last month. I've tracked my fitness forever but only recently got decent about tracking my food. The spark tracker for nutrition trips me up though so I have to track in my own written journal.

    I can't live without my fitbit though and a couple of years ago I was having a horrible time getting it to sync regularly so I feel your pain. Glad you can get it to to work with your phone.

    I am a tracker. I have learned to track even when I can't find exact matches- that would frustrate me and I would waste time searching for perfection. I track when I eat TERRIBLY. I track the good, bad and the ugly. Tracking works!

    I track everyday - the good, the bad and the ugly.
    I plan my food for the day as soon as I login here, but I do adjust if changes occurred, even the bad ones.
    I did it, I own it, I track it then forget it and move on.

    As for exercise, I just record that manually.
    Since losing my Spark clip on tracker, I never got another gadget.
    Hope you find a way to get yours working again.

    I find everything I have electronically is messing up too.
    Even my new fit bit doesnt say he to spark people ..
    A tech guy told me I need a new laptop, new phone and new tablet.
    Darn....
    I track exercise and food , sleep steps... and I just keep going..
