Thursday - a very uneventful day

Thursday, February 18, 2021

Today was yet another icy, snowy, remote/virtual school day!

I checked in with my nephews who live in different areas of Texas - both said they have been lucky and only minimal inconvenience rather than the devastating stuff that has filled the airwaves for the past few days. I was delighted to.learn that they are all.okay.

I rescheduled two of my IEPs for the third time in as many weeks because the icy treacherous roads meant we are working from home. Maybe the third time's the charm. I spoke to the parents and the first one said that she hasn't had electricity, phone, heat or internet for nearly two weeks. The other mom talked my ear off and left me almost in tears as she raved about how much I have done for her son. She told me that I made her entire month when I took the time to recognize how important the tiny baby steps he has made since he started in my class last year. We aren't talking about HUGE progress, but the fact I noticed that he will sometimes put objects in into a container - not sort them yet but at least interact with them. He is also staying in his seat for longer periods of time. She reminded me of how much my job means to not just my kids but to their parents as well.

I am not sure if I mentioned that I had a really cool thing happen on Tuesday when the m school mail was delivered and I got my first ever letter from a former student. This girl was in my class four years ago and then she moved to a different facility. She wrote letters to me and both my aides. Tthey were sweet and carefully written and mailed to us. All of us cried when we saw them.

Be blessed and have an awesome day, staying safe, warm and healthy!

You will be in those hearts forever just as my daughter’s teacher have been. My daughter stays in touch with hers after all these years and is a very special relationship. Holding a pencil, learning to use scissors, tying her shoes, printing her name. So many huge milestones others take for granted Your work is a ministry, a calling, a servant hood so much more than teacher.

Those are the moments that make teaching so special, especially when you are working with special needs students.
