Why AM I doing this?

Monday, February 01, 2021

Reflecting on past goals and seeing how they've evolved was an affirming process for me this morning.
I really don't remember how I found SparkPeople, but as a frugal soul I know that the price must have been right for me at the time...2015 I believe. I know I was on again/off again for a few years and didn't really have any on-going relationships with anyone else on the site. I've always enjoyed reading other's stories or motivations and occasionally commented or liked something.
I finally really engaged with a group in 2019. I thought that I didn't have anything to lose (but actually did have something I wanted to lose) when I joined a BLC group and was randomly placed with the Azuritas on island time. What a great support this team has been and activities have surely kept me more motivated and active than I would be on my own.
I think 2019 is when I "upgraded" to SparkPeople Premium, just to minimize the ads, but it has brought additional benefits I really didn't expect through coaching and motivators.

Anyway, once engaged I lost about 30# in my first year. I started because I wanted to walk to my 3rd floor office without being winded and getting side cramps. I was able to accomplish that, so goals evolved into smaller sizes, healthier lifestyle and feeling good.

I think most of us agree that we don't like change most of the time. But changing motivators and goals has been a necessity for me on my healthier lifestyle. As a healthcare worker and educator I know that change is almost always for the best, we grow to embrace the new changes...hence I've not been short of breath walking the stairs for a long time now.
While I've hit a plateau for a little while now, I'm grateful that I've not gained and know that I just need to keep at it.

It was great to read more about your beginnings, Jan! And needless to say, over the moon that you are with us on Azure and now as a co-Cappy! And plateaus.... meh - I think I'm hitting one, too, but as long as we keep doing the healthy things, we'll get healthier no matter WHAT the scale says!
