Time to rest!
Wednesday, January 20, 2021
I am a very early riser, but this morning, I must have needed the extra 30 minutes. Sometimes our bodies just need the extra rest even when our minds want to go.
My post is later than normal because my body needed the extra rest. The extra rest helps our bodies recover from the workout. The rest prepares us for the next workout. Listen to your body.
Rest allows our body tissue to recover from inflammation and even small tears occur in muscle tissues. During rest, the healing and regeneration of these muscles is what allows us to build strength, endurance, and muscle mass.
A rest day is when our bodies can rehydrate and refuel. Not only will diet and water intake help you recover, but it will also prepare you for tomorrow’s workout, too. Take time to refuel!
Rest is good for the mind. It's like shutting down your computer at night. Time away from the physical challenge and psychological strain that accompanies exercise, workout regimens, and sporting activities can do wonders for the mind. A bit of mental rest can recenter your memory, focus, and motivation that might suffer if you burn yourself out. Take time to rest!
