January 17, 2021 ON A WHIM
We may know people who rush ahead without thinking. They take action first and then decide later if it was a good idea or not. They don’t want to wait for anyone to tell them what to do. They move ahead believing their way is the right way without seeking advice or counsel. Sometimes, we may get an idea in our heads to do something and we don’t want to wait. We believe it is a great idea and move forward without thinking about what all will be involved, who it will affect or how long it will take. However, it is always good to seek feedback from others and think things through before moving forward.
The best way to ensure our actions are the right actions to take is to seek God’s word, pray and wait. Many of us don’t do this. We get a whim and we go with it. Then we either come to a dead end, find we are on the wrong street altogether or we end up in a wreck. God tells us to seek Him wholeheartedly with mind, body and soul. He wants us to do His will. He doesn’t want us to take matters into our own hands. We should let God show us His way even if it means we have to wait a while. His way is always best.
Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” (NLT)
1. Write down ways you have obeyed God.
2. List what you have done on a whim and how it worked out.
3. Prayerfully wait on God’s answer before taking any action.
4. Remember God’s ways are better than your ways.
Dear Lord, help us to not go out on a whim and do things without praying and asking You first. When we come to You and pray about something we have in mind to do, we know You will give us the right answer. We pray for Your direction and Your will to be done in our lives. Help us to be patient and wait if that is what You want us to do. Give us direction and show us what our next step should be. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
