January 16, 2021 WHERE DO WE BELONG
Sometimes we can tell where a person is from by the way they talk or how they look. Other times, we have to get to know them to determine their background and beliefs. The more we know someone, the more we understand what is important to them. And the more others know us, the more they will understand what is important to us.
Another way people come to know more about us is by our actions. Our actions show whether we are motivated to do something or if we just wait on things to happen to us. Our actions reveal if our morals and values are high or if we just do not care about what we do. However, we need to be deliberate about our actions because what we say or do does not just affect us. It affects others as well.
When we live a life for God, we can make a greater difference because we are showing others we belong to Him and not this world. We can help them better understand there is hope in God that this world cannot give. We can live as a godly life to be an example to others pointing them to Jesus. We need to show others, through our words and actions, that we belong to God.
1 John 3:19 “Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.” (NLT)
1. Write what actions show you belong to God.
2. List anything you do that is of this world.
3. Know God wants you to lead a godly example for others to follow.
4. Remember God can help you live a holy life for Him.
Dear Lord, we know our actions are not always in line with Your will. Sometimes our feelings or our words get in the way of what You want us to do. Help us remember Your word and Your will for our lives. We want to live for You daily and remember we belong to You and not this world. Help us to be a godly example to others. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
1 John 4:6 “But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.” (NLT)
2 Timothy 2:19 “But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and ‘All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.’” (NLT)
3 John 1:11b “Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.” (NLT)
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” (NLT)
Matthew 6:19-21 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (NLT)
John 8:47 “Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” (NLT)
