January 15, 2021 ACT WISELY
Many people who take action in life believe they are doing the right thing. They may base it on what someone told them to do. They could be following the actions of others. Or they may have read something in a book and got an idea to do something from what they read. Wise actions are not always found from those around us. We need to be sure we don’t mistake advice as wisdom. Good ideas aren’t always what they seem to be. We should not seek advice from the wisdom of the world.
There is a difference between being smart and being wise. There are those who study books and teachings and learn a great deal. They know how things work, who invented what and the right words to say. But without wisdom from God, even the smartest will not have true knowledge. Wisdom comes from fearing God and obeying Him. When we do that, we will know what He wants us to do to make a difference.
Proverbs 1:7 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
1. Write what you can do to learn more about God’s wisdom.
2. List ways you can apply His wisdom to your life.
3. Share God’s wisdom with others.
4. Choose to act in wisdom from God and live a life seeking His wisdom.
Dear Lord, we want to seek Your wisdom rather than the wisdom of the world. We know we can only find Your wisdom in Your word and through Your Holy Spirit. Teach us today what is right and good according to Your will. Give us wisdom, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
James 1:5-6a “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.” (NLT)
Proverbs 13:16 “Wise people think before they act; fools don’t—and even brag about their foolishness.” (NLT)
Colossians 3:16a “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives.” (NLT)
Proverbs 2:6-8 “For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.” (NLT)
1 Corinthians 3:18-19a “Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.” (NLT)
Job 12:13 “But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.” (NLT)
