New Year's Eve!

Wednesday, December 30, 2020

First of all, I'm looking forward to 2021. Those may be famous last words, but I love a new year. Even though it's just a changing day, things feel exciting and fresh. My 2020 hasn't been as challenging as it has been for many others, but I'm still glad to say goodbye.

Of course, since it's a nice fresh year, I want some new health goals. I like to frequently update my goals, so these are just my starters.

1. I'm going vegan for January.
This one is not for health, but it has the potential to affect my health. I'm doing it as a way to increase my empathy with others who eat in different ways than I normally do. I've spent the last week slowly transitioning, but from tomorrow it's ON. This has the potential to affect my health for either good or ill, depending on how well I plan. I also have a gluten intolerance, which throws a little wrench in the works, but it turns out that there are a ton of gluten free vegan recipes out there. Yay! So far, I've tried several easy recipes that I've really enjoyed, so I think this is actually going to be a fun challenge.

2. I'm going to increase my hiking endurance. I'm still working on HOW to do this. I love hiking and I would like to stop fewer times when I'm climbing a hill. I'm going to start by adding hills into my daily walks. I already climb a lot of hills and stairs, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I don't know if I need to work on cardio or muscles or both, but I'm looking forward to finding out!

3. I'm going to make decisions each day that make me feel good and note them at the end of the day. For example, going to sleep on time makes me feel awesome! Limiting my phone time, reading books, walking, eating nutritious food, watching my thoughts, and staying mindful also make me feel good. Even doing my skincare routine at the end of the day makes me feel good. But when I focus on a long range goal, sometimes I forget about the little things I am doing and they seem unimportant, when they are so important.

4. I'm going to learn to love water.
Right now, I don't love water that much. But I can learn to love it! I think!

So there they are! My January goals! Now, off to buy a journal for the new year.

I always enjoy reading your blog entries. I'm really impressed with your reason for going vegan. You are an outstanding human being! Good luck with the hiking. I did a 25 minute 10% incline workout on my tready a couple days ago and my bum is a little sore! It's a good sore. Wishing you all good things in 2021.
