Designer Dresses for Christmas
Tuesday, December 22, 2020
I don't remember how I discovered Rent the Runway. About 3 years ago I learned about this designer rental service that allows people to wear dresses that they couldn't normally afford. Occasionally, they have sales offering formerly rented clothes. There were two gowns that sell for hundreds of dollars, and are over 100 dollars just to rent. I have been watching them, hoping someday they would go on sale. About a year ago, before my surgery, I had started to become more fit. I made a Rent the Runway purchase during a "sample sale," a short, inexpensive dress to get an idea of what condition these clothes would arrive in in case my dream gowns ever go on sale. It is a nice dress and I like it. I forgot I had it during my illness and healing. About a month ago, I was finally able to tidy my closet. I found the dress. I put it on and it looks fabulous! I have lost 23 pounds since the summer, when I was so sick and inactive, that I gained almost 10 pounds above my SparkPeople starting weight.
I got another sample sale email from Rent the Runway. I went to check it out, and no, my dream gowns were not for sale. In fact, there were photos of hundreds of people wearing different sizes of each gown, and their reviews. Both dresses look great on all kinds of bodies. I decided I would never get myself either of these gowns from Rent the Runway, and googled them just for fun. That is when I discovered designer clothes are sold on EBay.
I almost passed out when I saw both of the fabulous designer gowns available for far less than I would pay to rent them for 4 days on the rental site! They were additionally discounted because the same seller had my size in both gowns! The seller shows all the details magnified, you can see the quality and condition of any piece you are looking at. I showed my husband these fabulous designer dresses. He said, "I haven't really bought you all the gifts I had planned on. Let's buy them!" We ordered the gowns and they arrived last week. I thought he would keep them to give me on Christmas. He said, "Let's try them on!" in case we needed to return them.
I can't believe how good I look dripping in sequins! Walking around my home in dresses I never thought I would ever try on, let alone own! My body has changed so much, even though I still am 17 pounds from goal. I truly felt like a princess! My husband loved them! He kept telling me how beautiful I look and that he can't wait until the day that he can take me out in them!
A year ago today, I had lost a few pounds, was lifting weights, and getting stronger. But I was working so hard and making little change in my body. I was deaf in my left ear and almost completely blind. I knew I was very sick, but I had no idea how much. Within 2 months my tumor was gone, and a host of complications would keep me in bed for another 9.
Now, here I am, slimmer than I have been at any Christmas in 20 years, with 2 designer gowns that look like a million bucks in my closet. This may seem silly, but I looked at both of those dresses so many times, it is like a dream come true.
I can see. I can hear. I can stand up. I can work out. I can cook dinner. I can go shopping, come home and wrap the gifts and put them under the tree I decorated. 2 months ago I couldn't make myself a cup of tea. You never know what's around the corner. Thank you for my new life, SparkPeople.
