Shoulda Thought That Through!

Sunday, December 13, 2020

The good news is, my latest Covid test came back negative yesterday. Hurrah!

My daughter and her husband had visited the day before Thanksgiving, and we shared a meal. And air space during that meal. When they got home from their Thanksgiving week travels, my daughter was notified that one of her coworkers had Covid. DD was exposed on her last day of work before Thanksgiving.

One week after Thanksgiving, DD got her test results back. She had Covid. So she notified everyone, and I was immediately tested. That test came back negative a few days later, but I decided to quarantine longer to make sure I wasn't a threat to anyone. DD was pretty sick for a while, but is now on the mend. Glory to God!

So, this past Thursday, I had a follow-up test to make sure I was clear. It came back negative yesterday. But . . . . I have had a sore throat and some other symptoms for a couple weeks. So I decided to go to Urgent Care to be checked for strep before rejoining society.

Urgent Care would not treat me! They said to go to the ER, or to go home for ten days and come back if I still had symptoms! I did not think this through very well. I just headed for the ER, thinking what a waste of hospital resources this was.

Well, of course I had a mask on. But I had to sit in the Covid waiting room because of my recent history and my symptoms. And there was someone in there who was coughing like crazy. And he was frightened, a young man. He occasionally pulled his mask down because he was having trouble breathing. And, mother that I am, I approached him a couple times to see if he needed assistance, which he did. One time I actually taught him a short prayer to help calm him. I kept my mask on, and when I was close to him, he had his mask on. But who knows how many droplets were hanging in the air!

Well, I do not have strep, so the whole trip was unnecessary. Unless, perhaps, God wanted me there for that young man.

Anyway, when I was being discharged I asked the nurse if I should quarantine for another two weeks. She said it would be safest to do so.

So I will be sequestered in my apartment until after Christmas! Well, I may jump in my car to drive around and see the lights. And no-contact pick-up from the pharmacy or store should not be a problem. But . . . . . Sigh.

Sorry you’ve had to go through that, but as you said, that young man benefited from your presence. I hope your daughter is doing better and that you stay well. We had to quarantine too after one of husband’s coworkers tested positive. Their contact was minimal, and thanks be, our tests were negative.

How scary, Kathleen! Such strange times were in! I'm glad you could be there for that young man who is so sick. He may have felt just a bit better knowing someone was praying for him. I hope your weeks of quarantine go smoothly and nothing pops up!

You are keeping us busy! I am glad you were there for that young man. How scary for him and a faith-filled mother figure did more for him at that time than anything else. Praying that you stay healthy and that this next quarantine will bring you a sense of Emmanuel at every moment.

Not fun, but I'm glad you are testing negative. Safe is always better than sorry. I do believe that God put you there to minister to that young man. He may not have anyone else to share Christ's love with him.

Praying that you stay safe (sequestered). You cannot get the virus by breathing your own air! Think of your future and pray that you find the strength to sacrifice regular rituals for awhile to stay healthy.
Big hugs to you, praying for you.

I am sending you prayers that you don't get this horrible virus. I would have done the same and helped the young man, bless you for teaching him a short prayer to help calm him down. it is possible that God wanted you there to help him. Driving around the town to see the lights will be nice. My son said quarantine drove him crazy unfortunately he had to miss a whole month of work. Thankfully the company paid him. My lungs are clear of the virus so he didn't need to quarantine anymore. To me the time went by I was too sick to care. The only thing I am dealing with is extreme fatigue.
