Do they think I'm stupid?

Got a call from suburban Detroit yesterday from a foreign speaking guy that claimed to be from Social Security. I told him they don't call people and he immediately went into a story about someone in Texas using my number and my old last name. Nope - I wasn't in Texas. He "transferred" me to an officer who remarkably had a voice that sounded the same. How can you transfer to a Texas officer from Michigan? He went into a spiel about how I was being charged for drug trafficking and other things, He mentioned my Wal Mart card. He wanted me to go up to the store and get a gift card. The officer would come to my house today to get it. When I told him that I wouldn't go into the store he insisted that I had to. Told him my hubby had the car. He wanted me to walk there. Nope. He wanted to stay on the line while I did that so he could talk me through it. Nope - I'm not tying up my line and I am not walking up there. "I will call you back in a half hour." What's your name again? He hung up.
I called Social Security. The wait was 1 1/2 hours, so I chose to have them call back. Meanwhile, I filed a report with the inspector general and froze all my accounts. When Social Security called me back, the first thing she said was her name. She told me what I knew - they won't call unless I want them to. And file a report - which I already did.
If it doesn't sound right, always go with your instincts.
