How do you measure progress?

Friday, November 27, 2020

Progress on anything - how do you measure it? Or is there just a start and then a finish. Weight loss, strength training, weaving have so many steps after 'start.' I try not to depend on the scale to be my only measure of losing weight. There is how I feel; how clothes fit; something that is easier to do now than it was 6 months ago.

Building strength becomes needing a heavier weight; adding reps; being able to open jars easier.

These thoughts came about as I sat at one of the looms at the village this morning. I am weaving a piece that I do not need to measure how long it is as it is the second piece; it goes as long as the warp will allow. So how can I tell that I have made progress weaving? Sometimes I can look at my shuttle and say "I will weave until I get to the green which will have all the pink and the following neutral section woven."

But most times I tell myself I will weave until x number of slats fall off the warp beam.

Mostly I do this because it is fun to hear them hit the floor and I have a great visual as to how much I have woven.
