I Want to Be a Runner
Thursday, November 12, 2020
I've never been a runner in my life. I was not built for speed - contact sports like football and basketball were more my style. I had the hips to knock anyone into next week
Recently I've had this desire to get out there and run. I can picture it - well maybe the mental picture in my head is a bit better than the actual picture I would make.
At the age of 53 and 100# overweight, I've decided to give it a shot. No, I can't run a 4 minute mile. Heck, at this point I can't even run 4 minutes. Grandma probably walks as fast as I'm "running"! But you know what? I had a friend tell me she started out slow and is now running 5K's. So I'm thinking slow is better than not at all
I have a City park that has walking trails which are lighted. I started out alternating jogging from one light post to the next then walking 2 (or 3) light posts. As I get stronger, I can now jog 2-3 light posts before walking. My goal - jog the whole way around the park (0.3 miles).
And YES - I do my best "running" at night so I don't scare the park goers!!
