Sunsets, NSV, and scaled-down Thanksgiving

Monday, November 02, 2020

We had beautiful sunsets over the past few evenings. Here are views from my porch.

I have been struggling with a weight plateau lately. So I was thrilled do you have a non-scale victory today. I had my annual health check in, and my blood sugar was in the normal range for the first time in over 10 years. My prior results were in the pre- diabetic range. And my cholesterol results were excellent which is another positive change. I am thrilled with these results.

I will be having a very different Thanksgiving this year. Normally I drive to San Francisco and Oakland to spend time with family. This year I am not traveling because of the pandemic. And I will be avoiding crowds, restaurants, and get-togethers indoor. I am not certain exactly what my plans will be; I will attend an outdoor cold weather potluck get- together if one of my friends hosts it. But I will most likely be staying home. I was pleased to discover an easy one pot Thanksgiving meal by Elizabeth Yarnell, author of “Glorious One Pot Meals”. The menu as written serves two, Of course it can be doubled or tripled for a larger group. Anyway, I thought I would try to share the link just in case any of you are in the same boat, and planning a scaled down holiday meal.

It’s the Holiday in One Pot recipe. She has a video link also.

I have not made this recipe, but I have made several other recipes from her cookbook. Most of them are very good.

Congrats on your good news! emoticon
Those plateaus are always frustrating! Believe me, been there many times. But I'd rather be that way than gaining! So hang in there.
Beautiful pics! Remind me if our sunsets here.

Just catching up here. Beautiful pictures and congrats on your NSVs

It's disappointing how different the holidays will be this year, but we must do what we can to stay safe and well.

Beautiful pictures, Alison. We've had some lovely sunsets too, but I haven't taken any pictures.

Congratulations on the NSV's! You should be very proud. The number on the scale isn't as important as some of these medical numbers.

Covid-19 #'s in Ontario are climbing every day, and the Medical Officer of Health has asked all Ontarians to reduce their contacts by 25% for the month of November. Peter has cancelled helping with the Legion Poppy Campaign this year, and I have opted out of helping with the Salvation Army Kettle. We will make donations instead. We believe in both of these organizations and will miss helping out, but Peter has had pneumonia several times, so we are staying in except for essentials. I've even almost finished my Christmas shopping so that I do not have to go into busy stores.

I know you will miss seeing your family at Thanksgiving, but I think you have made the right decision. Hopefully things will be better by Christmas!

Thank You for the recipe, Alison.

    And...........Congra
tulations on your non-scale victories. They are so important and you are doing a great job.

Ken and I will be home alone for Thanksgiving. It is just too scary and both of us are high-risk. Ken gets pneumonia very easily and I have A-Fib which could lead to something worse if I contracted COVID. One of Elizabeth's classmates tested positive so she has been exposed. Not getting to see E and Nola hurts the worst.
