Fall Back

Or Day Two of the 17 Day Firebreak Fortnight!

The clocks went back here in the UK last night.  Actually, this morning at 2 a.m to be precise. Not that I was up at that time to mark the moment.  'Spring forward, fall back' is a phrase many people use to recall whether the clocks need to go forward or backward. It's also pretty much the only time you'll hear 'Autumn' being called 'Fall' in the UK. Often it seems to me that American 'English' has a different approach than British 'English'.  Mostly more pragmatic.  Such as 'sidewalk' - much more to the point than our 'pavement'. However America, 'cell phone' - no, it's just not right.  It's a 'mobile' OK?

Daylight saving time they call it.  Hmm.  It's dark in the morning and it's dark in the middle of the sodding afternoon.  And no matter how much you fiddle around with the clock times, you still only get the same amount of actual daylight.  Of course two of the compensations of late Autumn are Halloween, and Bonfire Night.  Both 'cancelled' this year due to the Frigging Fizzy Flu and The 17 Day Firebreak Fortnight.  The earlier onset of sunset as it were, is just going to make it all the more miserable though I realise the practicality of doing it now to include the schools half term week.

On the subject of which [The 17 Day Firebreak Fortnight, I mean - not half term], I couldn't repeat my trip to the pool today - obvs.  Last Sunday I spent 45 minutes in the pool and approximately 15 minutes walking around before the session started.  How to reproduce that at home?  First and foremost, I realised I couldn't do it all in one go.  So I did three 20 minute segments.  The first trying to replicate some of the movements I did in the pool.  marching, backwards walking, crab walking, lunges, squats, star jumps, leg kicks, bicycle kicks etc.  The second session I did some arm exercises etc, then given I couldn't actually 'swim', I tried to recreate the aerobic part of my pool session by doing 5 minutes each on the exercise bike, the glider thingy, and the rowing machine.  Finally my third effort I did some general toning exercises, plus some pliés [including grand pliés dharlinks] and a good ten minutes of dancing.

And that's it Day Two of the 17 Day Firebreak Fortnight dealt with.

Bright blessings

In the US we also fall back after Halloween like Canada. This year it doesn't matter much since trick or treat is not happening but I think it is a shame that we don't do it the weekend before Halloween as it makes a difference when the kids can go out to get their candy (maybe I should say will as the kids want to wait until it is dark). Not a big deal when Halloween is on a Friday or Sat. but the other days it makes it later for the kids to go to bed and they have school the next day. I do not like daylight savings time (seems stupid changing clocks back and forth as the sun rises and sets the same) but it isn't as big a deal now that I am retired. I found it harder to go to sleep when it is light so late.
It is funny how different the same language can be in different countries.

We change our clocks back (fall back) on Saturday coming up. Yes, it does mean daylight is maybe 15 min. earlier, but . . . that's it. **SIGH** Oh well.

Good luck w/the rest of your Firebreak Fortnight, which is actually 17 days. **SIGH**

Not sure I read it correctly but daylight savings time is when we change the clocks in the spring. Forgive me if that is what you meant. Here in Canada we change our clocks this coming Saturday, first Saturday in November and then we are on standard time. I wish they would leave it as standard, there is talk of it being left as is or when we change in spring as there are those that like it staying light out later. I know no matter what happens people won’t be happy.

I hope you get to go visit your friends when you have planned, this COVID is really starting to get to people and we need all the relief we can get. 🤓😁🌼👍
