Making Changes

Sunday, October 25, 2020

I went grocery shopping this afternoon and I stuck to my list. The only thing that I didn't have on the list was drinks other than just plain water and I definitely need to stop drinking Mountain Dew. I can't tolerate any of the artificial sweeteners so I wanted to look around and see if I could find anything else I could add to my distilled bottled water. For some reason my stomach can only tolerate distilled water. I was happy to find in the tea aisle bottles of Twinings Cold Infuse Flavored Water Enhancer. There are 12 bags in each bottle that you add to the bottled water . I got the Peach & Passionfruit, Blueberry & Apple, Blueberry, Apple & Black Currant and Strawberry & Lemon flavors. It is sugar free, no artificial sweeteners. I have only had the peach & passionfruit one so far and I love it. I bought no Mountain Dew emoticon I am going to alternate by drinking a plain bottle of water and then a bottle of the infusers and so on.

This week I bought my usual Ensure Clear for my breakfast and lunch and my Ensure protein shake to have along with my dinners. For those that don't know I have severe gastroparesis if I force myself to eat when i am not hungry my stomach doesn't keep it down. I generally don't get hungry until the evening so I eat a low carb dinner and also drink a protein shake. Working with my dietician we found that I can keep down the ensure clear so I can get the nutrition I need for breakfast and lunch.

Talking with my dietician yesterday afternoon about the digestive issues that I am having now we decided on just eating chicken broth based soups for dinner as it would be more gentle on my stomach at this moment in time. So I bought chicken noodle soup and chicken and rice soup for dinner this week.

I went for a half hour walk today before my grocery shopping trip. Yesterday my youngest son and I went for a walk and had a nice conversation. It was so nice because he has been working crazy hours an I haven't seen him much. My oldest son works crazy long hours he says he gets up at 4am takes a quick shower and is out the door and he doesn't get home until 9pm and he rarely gets a day off. I haven't been able to reach him about installing the thermostat. I had attempted it today but the more I read the guide the more confused I was getting and that equals do not even attempt to install it.

There is good news to report. It is going to begin snowing overnight and snow into Monday here in the Denver metro are they say 5-10 inches and in the mountains where the fires are 10-15 inches is expected. This won't be enough to put the fires out but it will slow them down and give the firefighters to get containment on them. The bad news the high is only going to be 18 due to no thermostat equals no heat, LOL. I will get through it fine. I do have a space heater and an electric blanket.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

Oh my goodness! My eyes bulged with the mention of Mountain Dew. Years ago, i got two very painful stomach ulcers---had to have an endoscopy to discover what was causing the digestive snafu! There they were. A good friend (a male nurse) told me: "Stop drinking or eating whatever is causing this and the pain will subside and your health will return." Of course doctors wanted me to try this and that that medication. My friend was right. I STOPPED drinking the Mountain Dew---very bad stuff.

I love your positive attitude, both in your health challenges and in facing 18 degrees without heat.

Good news about slowing the fires. Hope your son has time to help you with the thermostat.
