Calendar Girls

Thursday, October 22, 2020

Calendar Girls bloomed in theater screens in 2003. It was based on the actual incidents around .the local Women’s Institute (WI) local in the village of Knapely, Yorkshire, England. John, the husband of Anne, had leukemia & died of it. Her best friend Chris was close to both of them, & the ladies wanted to raise money to improve the waiting area @ the Leukemia Center. Anne & Chris were the driving force behind getting the local Wi to sponsor a calendar of the local members doing stuff (baking, knitting, playing the piano ...) The trick was that the ladies were actually in the buff, but tastefully so. Lots of props, & actually in pearls &/or hats. . They convinced 10 more ladies to join, & got an amateur photographer. They asked for support from the local leader of he WI, who turned them down. They petitioned the national leader, who kicked it back to the local leader. She reluctantly approved it, & the gals were on their way. The initial printing sold out, many more were made.

The gals became media hits in England, then brought to America to be interviewed on the Jay Leno Show . The stresses of fame ha them breaking apart for a while, but they reconciled. They mad a lot of money for the Leukaemia Foundation (they originally just wanted more comfortable waiting furniture). 10 year later, The Original calendar ladies were shot in sepia,or,black or white.some of the ladies made a comeback to raise more money for the Leukaemia Foundation -it was printed in color. There was also a musical, from the movie. The reel ladies playing the real ladies are some of the best of the best (in my option) of British female actors ofcertain age.

The Way You Do the Things You Do
Smokey Robinson & the Temptations - from the movie

The way you do the things you do (the way you do the things you do)
The way you do the things you do
The way you do the things you do (do it, do it, do it)
The way you do the things you do
The way you do
Ah, yes

You've got a smile so bright
You know you could have been a candle
I'm holding you so tight
You know you could have been a handle
The way you swept me off my feet
You know you could have been a broom
The way you smell so sweet
You know you could have been some perfume

Real first calendar

Well, you could have been anything that you wanted to
And I can tell, the way you do the things you do
(The way you do the things you do) the way you do the things you do
The way you do the things you do
As pretty as you are
You know that you could be a flower
If good looks was a minute, uh
You know that you could be an hour

Real 10 years later

The way you stole my heart
You know you could have been a cool crook
And baby you're so smart
You know that you could be a schoolbook
Well, you could have been anything that you wanted to
And I can tell, the way you do the things you do
(The way you do the things you do) the way you do the things you do
The way you do the things you do

Reel first calender

Well
All right
You made my life so rich
You know you could have been some money
And baby you're so sweet
You know you could have been some honey
Well, you could have been anything that you wanted to
And I can tell, the way you do the things you do
(The way you do the things you do) the way you do the things you do
The way you do the things you do

You made me feel all right (made me feel all right)
You made me feel all right
(The way you do the things you do) made my life complete
(The way you do the things you do)
(The way you do the things you do) the things you do
(The way you do the things you do)
I can't get over you, I can't get over you (The way you do the things you do)
(The way you do the things you do)
(The way you do the things you do) do it, do it, do it
(The way you do the things you do) the way you do the things you do
(The way you do the things you do) ooh
Do it
