Still waffling about continuing with Boy Scouts - still not missing it (so why am I waffling? good question). I guess I feel that since I haven't been active even with the virtual meetings and some of the newer parents have been maybe it's time to let them take over (what I do) and just stay in the background as a Merit Badge Councilor - which brings me to.....
I am in the Columbus Ohio area where our city is broken down into various areas and have what the call Area Commissions which deal with property issues - zoning requests/changes for businesses - helping people of the community with things like trashy areas or complaints about things that are going on with their neighborhood etc. - we have city officials (virtually now) who also attend our meeting along with a police representative.
Anywho - I've been a member now for 3 years and our commission chair has step down as she took a position with the city attorney's office and this would have been a conflict of interest. The assistant chair is now the chair but they needed someone to take over the zoning chair (which apparently the president had also been doing) - I said "hey I'll do that" (what the H was I thinking?????????!!!!)
So.....I don't have all the details yet on what that position holds but from what I know (from what the president did) was I will be first contact between developers who want to do something in our area - mail notices out to the people who live close to that to let them know and invite them to the meeting - set up the site visits to go and see whatever the developer wants to do first hand (I love that we do this) - the paper work (what the H was I thinking?????)
I will be good at this I know - my 20+ years dealing with Boy Scout parents and all the boys have taught me a lot about how to deal with different (and difficult) people - my 30+ years at my job where I dealt with every one from a clerk to the head of the agency to the outside vendors have taught me how to deal with different people and my 6 years of being an admin/moderator in 3 Facebook groups have taught me how to deal with people (from all over the world) - just what the H was I thinking?????
Maybe this is the nudge I need
