If it's Not One Thing It's Another!

Sunday, October 11, 2020

First the good news...as expected I tested negative for COVID so my runny nose, sneezing & cough were all due to a cold and/or allergies. From what I read of my symptoms I was pretty sure it was just a cold.

Second thing (and not such good news), walking back with Fletcher I tripped on a rock and fell! Hit my head so there is a bump on my forehead and fell on my right arm that started to really hurt when I used it. So off to urgent care again! Long story short x-rays show a very tiny crack or fracture of my elbow but they don't do anything about it. Dr. told me to not wear a sling, maybe compression bandage would help. (have an ace bandage on now and it does help), don't use the arm too much and monitor it. She just called and said she did some research after I left and because of the osteoporosis of the RIGHT arm I should see an orthopedist in a week. For now taking it easy; I can walk Fletcher holding the leash in my left arm which I usually do and don't do any strength work. Will figure that out.

I have always been a tripper/faller so that is nothing new. I notice that wearing the mask seems to put my perspective off a little and since I usually wear a ball cap to keep the sun off my face there isn't much clear area. We have skipped personal training for a couple of weeks because of my cold and our trainer is on vacation. Have noticed that when I'm working out with her I'm less apt to trip on something; guess the strength work and balance helps! Go figure.

And now it's time for lunch.

I hope you will continue to take it easy so you can heal. I tend to trip too. I have to be very aware of where I am walking. emoticon

So sorry about the elbow crack! Yes, do go see the orthopedist. I'm surprised that wasn't the initial recommendation. Lots of muscles attaching there, depending on where the crack is. Important to have someone looking at it who does that as a specialty. I broke my shoulder about 5 years ago. Took a good year to get it all the way back to normal. Elbows aren't as bad, but you still want your arm to heal correctly. Good luck!

Wearing the mask IS disconcerting with depth perception etc. And yes . . . extra care with the osteoporosis for sure . . .

    Hope your elbow heals soon.

Wow so sorry to read that you fell. That is my worse fear because the last time I fell I broke my ankle and I don't want to go through that again. Hopefully with the ace bandage around the arm it will help support it.
I am not sure why as we get older we tend to lose our balance. I find myself sometimes be unstable.

You have given me the incentive to do more yoga for balance and work on my core more. Take care of yourself and I hope your elbow heals quickly.

Ouch Martha. I join you in the fall/trip group, I just tripped over a very small curb on my walk, no damage except a tear in my jeans but it was spectacular enough to warrant attention from other walkers. I will be stiff and sore in the morning.
I don't wear a mask when outdoors on walks, I seldom come face to face with others on the routes and if I do we simply maintain our distance. Do take care and may your elbow heal quickly. emoticon
PS: glad to hear that your COVID test was negative.
