World Mental Health Day

October 10th is World Mental Health Day.

I go to therapy. Do you? Have you considered it? Have you shrugged it off? Have you started and stopped?

Going to therapy doesn't mean you're crazy. It doesn't mean you're weak; in fact, it's just the opposite. Seeking therapy shows that you are strong enough to seek what you need to improve your health. If we don't take care of our mental health, then our physical health can suffer.

Wouldn't it be great to remove the stigma around seeking therapy? Telling someone you see a therapist should be as normal as saying you are going to see your doctor for any physical issue.

If you feel you could benefit from an objective person to talk to, talk to your doctor. Call your insurance company. Do an internet search for local resources in your area. If you don't click with the therapist you choose, change. There's no shame, you're not insulting anyone, you are taking care of you.

Show support to someone who tells you that they are in therapy. Be a good listener. Mental health issues thrive in silence.Let's talk about it.

    Great blog. No shame. I went during my divorce.
    The first therapist - “Lots of couples get through this.” Six sessions, going nowhere. Not a good fit.
    The second therapist: “You’ve done this dance for twenty years. Do you really think it’s going to change?” One session, at my house. The light came on. I was done, and free!
    My daughter talked me into a Landmark course last year. She has done two and it has done wonders for her. I call it counseling boot camp. My take away - be your authentic self and speak your truth.
    Stop the stigma. Therapy is a good thing. Thank you for your blog.

    When I turned 40 I gave myself the gift of six months of therapy. It was life changing. Still benefitting from it 20 years later.

    I don't have to leave my house if I want therapy because I have appointed my husband LOL! 😊 ...Seriously, he is a great listener and Never seems to run out of wisdom! ...🤔 ....Plus he doesn't charge me! Lol.Meanwhile, I do my best to stay calm and happy! ....💓

    Therapy has been invaluable in my life as has AA. Asking for help, being humble, surrendering, accepting responsibility, and taking action have made me stronger and more authentic. God bless you for writing this. Big Hug!

    My DH got a lot of help going to a therapist after his father passed away. There were unresolved issues and it helped him to Work through his emotions. Sometimes the changes in your life involve such complicated emotions that a therapist can help you work through them and face them.

    My granddaughter sees a therapist.

    I am not currently seeing a therapist. But, have I ever? Yes, definitely. Especially when my children were young and I was going through a divorce. I asked my ex-husband to go with me and he refused so I went alone. I'm not sure how I would have gotten through some of the things I've been through without help. I agree that seeing a therapist is very healthy.
