I am finally settled back at home after being in Austin, Texas for over two weeks. The joy of being “MIMI” with my sweet adorable “just turned one” grandson Lev, were wonderful moments and the time spent with my daughter and SIL was great fun. We had so many belly laughs, cooking together making delicious health conscious food, and getting familiar with the “lay of the land” so I can educate myself for my future move to Austin. Time went by fast; I saw plenty of homes for sale there but nothing snagged my heart yet.

Austin, (although a blue town,) is not California, and California is indeed not Texas. They are apples and oranges as far as I am concerned, so it will take a lot getting use to once I make the big move to Austin. I did find a fantastic market (originated in Washington) called Central. The bakery on site is amazing, fresh baked breads, cookies and pastries daily; their orange/cranberry oatmeal cookies are to die for.

Knowing I am going to eventually move, I have been eyeing my cottage and thinking of what I want and don’t want to bring with me on moving day. And I realize with the exception of my clothes, kitchenware and a few selected pieces of furniture, I want to start all over. My taste has changed over the years and I have been leaning more towards a modern/farmhouse style. So I will probably have an open house moving sale to get rid of a lot of pieces I no longer want. The older I get, the less I want.

If I think of all the work moving, I will be doing in the near future, I can get overwhelmed quite quickly. So instead I am concentrating on just today and making it the best ever for now. After all, I can always look at this photo which does bring a smile to my face:

It's hard to imagine you uprooting and living anywhere else!
I applaud your plan to start over, and let go of things you have enjoyed but which no longer fit what you want. I could follow your example!

    What. A. Cutie!
My sisters and I spent a long weekend in Austin last year to celebrate our aunties 95th birthday and all four of us loved the city so much.
    You will be happy there.

Lev what a sweet cutie he is. Hoping that your move to Texas goes smooth. Also, trying to find a home in a place that you are not totally familiar with can be over whelming. Wishing you all the best in your search and new endeavor.

I so agree, the older I get the more I like open space, and in my house. I should have a walk thru sell here, as there is so many piece I would love to get rid of. I am so tired of all these sofa, no house should have 3 sofa, and one 3 piece sectional, no matter how big the 2 living rooms are. and chairs, well, lets just say I have seating for a mob. lol And then there is all the coffee table, end table, lamp table and the list goes on and on.
And that Lev is getting so big, and more handsome in every picture.

I think California is pretty unique and those who leave it will find lots of differences. You are lucky to have grown up there. I always wanted to live in San Francisco, at least when I was younger. Now I think I'd be happy with a little cottage in the woods! Maybe some day. I love this picture of Lev - he's so adorable.
