Look on the Bright Side

Friday, September 25, 2020

I know, I know! What bright side can there possibly be right now? For the moment lets not even get into politics which is making me crazy.

The pandemic is still in full swing and from reports looks like it'll be a tough fall and winter. Here in NY Cuomo is steering the ship in the right direction and just announced two commissions: one to look at the efficacy and safety of any vaccine(s) and the second to figure out the logistics of getting a vaccine distributed and administered. Given that, I would take the vaccine so that is good news!

What else positive has happened?
* Working out outdoors! As I got more and more into fitness I stopped my outdoor walks and concentrated on the gym. These last six months have reminded me of just how great it is to get outdoors and move. Now that the weather has cooled we're going to start going to some local parks for hikes. Even though we can go back to the gym will continue with the outdoor walks. emoticon

* Eating at home! To keep my weight off, I've been eating at home more, but now? We eat most meals at home and linked to that is finding new recipes. What else is there to do? Scan the web for new recipes, shop, and make a delicious dinner. Have the time right? emoticon

* Reading more. have been reading a lot more and enjoying it more.

* Relaxing more. sure being retired gives one plenty of down time, but before the pandemic I still felt like I was going, going, going! had to get to a class, rush to an appointment, off to see a friend or movie. Now? Days are unstructured and just flow. We do tend to walk in the morning then can just see how it goes. Sitting out on the deck with a glass of ice tea and a book is priceless.

* Rethinking connections. Never thought I'd enjoy zoom meetings but there are a new way to connect that has been surprisingly good.

* Spending time with loved ones. yes, I'm missing some, but spending more time with my partner. And our dog just loves all the attention. emoticon

* Saving money! Not going out means I'm not spending money on meals or coffee, or treats and I sure don't need new clothes! Knowing that others aren't so lucky means I've been able to donate to places to help others.

There are probably more but these just popped up. What bright side have you all found?

Catching up here after days of slow, unstable Internet.

What a wonderful, positive blog! Joe and I will take the vaccine too.

Bright side? We are changing Internet providers. Should be more reliable, faster access.

A lot of lives have changed and will change for the better I think in the long run :), we have got the time to rethink our objectives and plans and decide what really matters to us.

The bright side is that I'm here, healthy (for the most part) doing what I can when I can. I have learned to appreciate everything around me. I live totally in the moment. I have been escaping through reading and have spent my summer in the great state of Maine. Hubby and I have come to enjoy the little things around us. Our backyard is gorgeous this year with all the attention we've been giving it. We have completed numerous projects around the house that needed to be done, but never any time to do them. We have future projects plans and they start tomorrow.

There are definitely some ups to all of this, but also I miss seeing our family other than computer wise, and our friends. I take things one day at a time now.

Yes, these times have made me slow down and appreciate the little things a lot more. That is a good thing.

I love the times DH and I can sit and share meals together that I have made. Good bonding time.

I have appreciated the quiet that ensued following the reduction in activity. Activity is increasing and with the increased activity comes increased noise. I enjoyed it while it lasted.

All of your super ideas plus working on ideas for my garden space for next spring. I am getting outdoors as much as possible and soaking up the autumn sun, this is my favourite time of year.

I am in NJ and our governor and yours seem to figure things out together. Yes, there are positives during this time. It is good to focus on those. emoticon

There is definitely joy in the little things! The slower pace has been refreshing. I am disabled so like you, I could have enjoyed these things before, but I filled my time, constantly organizing and checking my calendar. This has been a reset.
