Operating on fumes again

Thursday, September 10, 2020

Got ZERO sleep last night and have spent the day dealing with the fact that while my doctor is willing to order iron infusions for me, BCBS won't pay for them as they don't believe they can help RLS (restless legs)--even though there is copious medical data on how they do indeed help many RLS patients. Seems he's not willing to go to bat for me about this. His office acts as though I'm trying to get him to lie to the insurance company while I know for certain that there must be ways RLS patients at big teaching hospitals manage to get infusions paid for.

We have decided to switch back to the doctor we left 7 years ago at our local teaching hospital, UAB. We liked him a lot and he liked us, but it took HOURS just to get labs done there. You could blow a whole day for just a regular office visit. But the lack of treatment I'm getting with our present doctor has become unacceptable. Sadly, his youngish wife has MS and recently had breast cancer as well. To me it seems that he has mentally checked out because of the stress.

Okay, I'm going to go pray and try to get an hour of sleep. Hope to at least put in 10 minutes of exercise later.

I know it's probably not so simple for your restless leg to discover a cause, but mine was aspartame in the diet coke I drank. emoticon

I feel for you. Praying it gets better

It surely does sound like he has checked out. Understandable, but that does not help you. Maybe they have changed their procedures at the teaching hospital. Many health care providers are much more attuned to the practical needs of patients than they were even a few years ago. And technology has improved by leaps and bounds. So it may not be as slow anymore.

Praying for the best for you!
