July to Sept 2020

I want to get in better shape. I like to try new things. I like to jump rope. I know I will buy myself some new ropes and start jumping rope. July 2020 I’m ready. Have my ropes, have looked at different sites, decided to jump for 1 minute, rest 30 second and at the end will have a total for 5 minutes jumping. I set my interval timer and I’m off. I did 83 jumps the first day, I did 86 jumps the second day, I did 89 jumps the third day. On the fourth day I was feeling some pain in the back of my heel. I took a rest day. Then the pain got worse and worse. I was physically limping and the pain was bad. I went to the Urgent Care Center and they said it looked like I pulled the muscle. To take Alieve twice a day for 7 days and stay off as much as possible. This here ended my jump rope career (at least for a while).
While I was at the Urgent Care Center they took my blood pressure and said it was high that I should follow up with my family doctor. I made an appointment for the following week. I know high blood pressure is nothing to fool around with. It runs on my mom’s side of the family and being close to 49 years old – I really was not surprised. I check my blood pressure every morning and evening with the little blood pressure cuff I had at home. I marked down all the reading and when I went to the doctor I had a list to present to him. He took it twice in the office, looked at my list and said YES, we need to start you on medication. Sent me for blood work and started me on medication.
What do you do when you have sore ankles, high blood pressure and you are stressed out because of it? That’s right – you buy yourself a brand-new car! On July 25th I bought myself (or I guess leased) a 2020 Rav 4 with only 2 miles on it. Exciting and scary!
On August 7th I turned 49.
Back to the doctors and he said the blood work was good except my glucose levels and he believes I may be diabetic. I told him I did not want to be diabetic. He was not amused. He sent me for an A1C blood test.
While I was there I complained about a pain in my elbow. He said it looked like tennis elbow, take Alieve twice a day for 7 days. Ok it did help with the heels (even though they still hurt from time to time – they are 95% better, so might as well do the same for the arm).
My A1C came back as 7.1 and as of September 9th I am starting diabetic medication, one tablet a day but he would like me to eventually take 2 a day. Right now, stay on that for 3 months, redo A1C and go from there. On my follow up the appointment the blood pressure was good so the medicine for that seems to be work. I am hoping the diabetic medicine helps too. I’m upset to be “diabetic” but hoping with my continued nutrition and exercise I will not be on it for long. Oh, and the arm is still very sore. I now have a tennis elbow brace and he started me on 7 days of steroids.
That has been the last couple of months for me. I’m kind of taking it with a grain of salt and a chuckle! It is what it is. I’ll do what the doctor tells me. I will work hard to lose weight. I’ll keep moving forward. I will not give up and I will succeed!
