One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Originally shared this on my Instagram, but I figured I should check in here as well. This is definitely my biggest weight gain since joining Sparkpeople all the way back in 2007.

Have you you moved your body today? Have you stretched?⠀

I am the worst when it comes to remembering to stretch. It's so boring to me! I've also been more lazy these past few months than I have been in years. It doesn't help that I've been nursing an ankle injury for most of the year. One step forward, two steps back. Ugh 🤦 ⠀

I hadn't thought much of it though. Yeah the gym's been closed and I was eating more frozen yogurt than one probably should (cherry garcia 😍😋), but my clothes still fit so I figured I was doing fine. It wasn't until recently that I realized that I actually hadn't worn real clothes in months. It was cold so I tried to put on some jeans and none of them fit! I knew leggings are very forgiving, I just had no idea my athletic shorts are as well. (I didn't even have to let the knots out! 🤷) Unfortunately for me I lose weight very easily from everywhere EXCEPT for my stomach and all of the weight that I've recently gained has decided to make its home right where I need it the least. Which on the one hand, I'm used to. Being apple 🍎 shaped, I am used to my waist being wider than my hips. I am used to my tiny chicken legs and thicker middle (especially on high pain days, all that added bloat 😭). On the other hand, this weight gain has been messing with my self esteem hardcore.⠀

So the other day I bit the bullet to see just how bad it is. I never weigh myself anymore, so I had no idea what to expect from the scale. I took a breath, stepped on, and saw a number I hadn't seen in years. Total damage since the last time I weighed myself? 15 pounds. Gulp. 😳 And see the thing is, I know how to lose weight. I know I need to cut out the junk and get back to exercising regularly again. I just can't seem to gather the motivation that I had the last time around. I'm old and set in my ways! 😂 No, but seriously it's been a struggle. But not an insurmountable one. I know what works for my body and I'll get back there again. One day, one workout, and one slow tired stretch at a time.

    I believe in you! I have noticed the same waning motivation to do the hard work. Time has come. Let's do this thing!

    I'm not apple shaped but pear... and stomach is the last place that I lose from also. Glad you shared. emoticon

    Just take it one day at a time and one step at a time. You will get there. You can do this! emoticon emoticon
