Back to the gym!

Wednesday, August 26, 2020

In New York, our governor allowed gyms to reopen on the 24th which is a BIG DEAL!!! Of course subject to restrictions and personal care like wearing a mask. Our gym is going to reopen on September 1st as they are still working through details. For instance, doubt that they will offer classes. We plan to continue our personal training outside as long as we can since that is working.

Our community fitness center opened on Monday and today I decided to give it a try. We walked Fletcher who is getting his "sea legs" back to so speak and being braver about his walks. (Loud noises like a gun shot spooked him about 2 weeks ago). then I went to the fitness center, wiped down the treadmill, turned on the TV and walked a fast mile. Phew! Much harder than outside. Hopped on the Elliptical and made just over 13 minutes. Got a chance to try out new shoes that felt great. Tomorrow will. head back and test a second pair.

Got three new pair yesterday; mine were looking pretty sad and because of a bunion my toe pokes a hole in the left foot!

Feeling great about the gym and upping the intensity of cardio. Since the weather is so beautiful we can continue our outdoor walks and add in a couple of days of cardio at the gym. Add some weights during the week. It's coming back.

What's going on in other parts of the country with gyms? Are you going back? What a time!

That sounds just great !! Exercise feels so good . . .

My gym, where I've been a member since 1976 (with a few breaks for school etc.) has closed permanently. I miss my gym and my gym friends . . .. but for now I'm working out at home and walking, golfing, kayaking etc.!!

Great news about the gym. That's a nice plan for mixing things up. It's difficult through these insane times.

    Stay safe. Be well. emoticon

That's wonderful news about the gym! And your description of your workout made me want to get up out of this chair and get moving. You are dedicated! And it must be motivating to get all equipped with the new shoes, and fun to have a choice each time you exercise.

Our dogs are really frightened by loud noises, too. They panic and go sort of crazy. We have to nurse them through every thunderstorm. One good thing about the pandemic is that there have been no fireworks shows this year, so no booming noises in the night. I hope Fletcher gets more and more relaxed and that the gunshot noises don't recur. Take care and stay safe.

Our gyms remain closed with no opening date in sight. Our county is on the state's monitoring list and as long as we remain on that list, gyms are not allowed to reopen.

If I were physically able to return to the gym, I doubt that I'd be eager to return right when they open. I tend to be more risk averse than others, I suspect.

I'm sure you're thrilled to be seeing your routine return to something that resembles your previous routine. Enjoy! And, stay safe.

Also, I've always preferred outdoor exercise; but, I did thoroughly enjoy working with the personal trainer, weights, and machines when I was able.

Our gyms are not open as of yet. No word when our Governor is going to allow them to be open. That's ok, cause I don't do gyms. I mostly walk outside, do gardening outside, and also I have a treadmill, and recumbent bike down in our basement. We also have a full set of weights, yoga mats, exercise balls, and loads of cds for exercise. Hubby and I go down and do strengthening exercises together, cause when he was younger he used to lift weights.

We did at one time have a membership to a rec center which offered all of the above plus more machines. We're thinking of ordering a weight machine and doing research on it now, so that we can strengthen our backs better. So our basement in a way is our gym.

Nice! What a time indeed! Happy you have that outlet back in your life. Gyms in Missouri are open and have been for awhile- to include classes.

Our city has a mask rule in effect until after the 1st of the year; however, I'm not seeing much wearing going on in general, or folks are simply wearing it under their noses when going in, etc. Our numbers continue to rise and with my job ending soon and loosing my health insurance, I'm steering clear of anywhere I don't HAVE to go. Getting plenty of exercise at home and around the neighborhood. YouTube has been extremely helpful with new workouts and exercises to try. You and yours take care!
