August 5, 2020 THE ACTIONS OF OTHERS
We know we can’t control other people. We can try but it will just leave us frustrated and angry. We know everyone has to make their own decisions, take their own actions and learn from their mistakes. However, we can’t help but worry about the actions of others. We can’t help but worry about the harm they want to do to others to get ahead or to get what they want. We see it all the time. People take wrong actions for the wrong reasons. We can’t control what they do, but we can control what we do.
To help us better deal with the actions of others, we should pray, give it to God, and stop worrying. We are told in God’s word we are not to fear man. We are to only fear God. When we constantly worry about the actions of others, we become distracted from what God really wants us to do. God doesn’t want us to get obsessed with those who do wrong but, instead, trust in His power and protection.
Luke 12:4-5 “Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.” (NLT)
1. Write what you know about God’s power and protection.
2. List the fears you have about others and what they do.
3. Know God’s power is far greater than any person’s on earth.
4. Choose to fear only God and draw close to Him to give you peace.
Dear Lord, we don’t want to be consumed with worry about what other people are doing or what they may do to us. We don’t want to live our lives in fear of others. We want to better know You and understand how we are to fear only You. Remind us what it means to fear You, Lord, and what we can do to stay focused on You. We want to remember how great You are and acknowledge Your power, protection and peace. Help us experience all three of these today, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God gives us many instructions on how we are to fear Him. If we don’t understand how to fear God, we need to get into His word.
Proverb 8:13 “To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” (NIV)
Psalm 2:11 “Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.” (NLT)
Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.” (CSB)
Psalm 112:1 “Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands.” (NLT)
We aren’t to fear man but instead fear God by obeying His word. Then we won’t fear this world at all.
Psalm 118:6 “The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” (NLT)
