August 4, 2020 SENSE OF CALMNESS

Many of us go on vacations this time of year. We go to get away from work, our routines, and to relax. We may stay busy during our vacations but we are relaxing because we are away from work and the stress of everyday life. Taking time to relax gives us a sense of calmness. Even at home or work, we like to have some type of calmness in our lives each day. In this world where there is tension, craziness, and chaos, it is good to find a place every day to just be alone, turn everything off, and enjoy the calmness.

However, even when we are alone in a quiet place, our minds may continue to race. We are thinking about what we need to do. We are worried about a doctor’s appointment, an upcoming meeting, our finances, relationships, etc. When we want to be calm and quiet, we are still anxious and distracted. God can help us with this. He can calm our fears, give us peace, and still our minds. We should go to Him daily and spend quiet time with Him so we can allow Him to rid us of any anxiety in our lives. Then we will experience true peace and a greater sense of calmness in our lives that this world cannot give.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 11:28-30 “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to stay calm and to relax.
2. List what God says in His word about this.
3. Know God can give you greater peace than this world can give.
4. Stay focused on God and allow Him to ease your mind.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us, we pray. We want to have less stress about the things in our lives. We want to enjoy calmness and peace. We know only You can give us the peace that is truly calm and relaxing. We pray You will help us find some quiet time with You today to sit and listen to You, to meditate on Your word, and to accept the calmness You have for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God promises to calm our fears if we will only turn to Him and trust in Him.

Zephaniah 3:17 “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (NLT)

When we fix our thoughts and minds on God and His word, we will have perfect peace.

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (NLT)

We can be calm in any storm knowing God, Himself, will fight for us.

FOCUS:
Exodus 14:14 “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” (NLT)
